F1 » F1 Driver of the Year vote: 5th

It might be difficult to place the performabce of Mclaren's car next year with two fast but inconsistent drivers. Hamilton had off days in terms of incidents but he always got close to the car's maximum so they at least knew what their car could achieve. Fifth seems about right, but I might have put Hulkenberg in front.

F1 » Vettel crowned champion amidst Brazilian drama

Both men deserved it, but Alonso drove one of the greatest seasons I've ever seen. Vettel was easily the best man last year, and probably outdid Alonso in 2010 too, but I wanted Alonso to win today because I feel no-one has driven better. Hulkenberg drove well, many people made that mistake, the only problem was that there was another car there. That disappoints me, other drivers made worse mistakes at Turn One, so it isn't the mistake being punished, it's the outcome.

F1 » POLL: Did Ferrari make the right call?

If, with a few laps remaining, Alonso is leading in Brazil and Webber is second with Vettel fifth, Red Bull will ask Webber to drop back and hand Vettel to the title. This is practically the same thing, it's a shame to see Massa do badly out of it, but at least it's transparent. Ferrari don't have as fast a car as Red Bull so they will try and win by other means, which makes it sound bad but they were operating within the bounds of the regulations. No, Massa wasn't happy, but he knows it was for the team, I doubt he was happy when he let Raikkonen win in Brazil in 2007 but he still did what was best for the team.

MotoGP » Dani Pedrosa ends 2012 action on top

@ Stavros, I pointed out that Pedrosa was on an upward curve prior to Stoner's accident, the fact that Stoner got injured at that time was not, in my opinion, a reason for him hitting peak form at this time. Surely the fact that Stoner won at Phillip Island whilst injured suggests that he wasn't handicapped by that point, and makes Dani's win in Valencia and to some extent Sepang all the more impressive? I never believed that Pedrosa was only held back by injury as things were, everything has to come together to win a title and it still hasn't over a whole year for Dani, I do think that Lorenzo deserved the title most this year, but pedrosa is unquestionably riding at his best ever level. As for Lorenzo's token resistance? Well aside from Brno I think it's fair to say he couldn't beat Dani anyway. I have no doubt he could have been closer, but equally I have no doubt that if he really felt he could have won those races then he would have raced a lot harder.

MotoGP » Dani Pedrosa ends 2012 action on top

@ Stavros, I accept that Pedrosa had little competition aside from Lorenzo, who was still trying to win judging by some of his post race body language. It was more an argument formed on the basis that Pedrosa was matching Stoner for points and beginning to match him for speed by the time Stoner had his accident, and seemed to be on an upward curve anyway, particularly after his relative struggle in the first four races. I don't think Pedrosa would have won all those races with Stoner present, however I don't think Stoner would have outdone him either. The likely result would have been that they took points off each other and Lorenzo would have won the title. For the record, I think Lorenzo was number one this year despite Pedrosa's record, he blitzed the first six races and only made one big mistake when the championship was already won.
