MotoGP » Valentino Rossi: We can fight

@Billace I certainly have no vested interest in any one rider winning and will enjoy the racing no matter what the outcome, agree about the difficulty of VR winning another title. JL is like a machine, not the fastest and not the most exciting but he can crank out fast tidy laps. DP is also fast and hungry for the championship. My pick JL.

@livio I love 2 strokes and respect anyone who can win even a single race on a 125 or 250, I raced 250 production 2 strokes among other thing years ago and I know how hard it is to win even at a national level. Not trying to take anything away from Rossi but to claim he was dominating in those years is incorrect when someone else was in the middle of a 5 year winning streak in the premier class 500gp From memory Rossi raced 250 for 2 years and won one year same for 125 I think, and you'd could hardly say he was dominating after his 5years in a row certainly not his time on the Ducati, 16 years dominating? I think not cheers

Re Rossi's "16 years of total domination" Rossi won his first 500gp championship in 2001 and kept wiining till 2005, in 2006 he was beaten by the huge talent that is Nicky Hayden then Stoner in 2007 2008 and 2009 were again Rossi's years for the championship. So maybe you could say he dominated the open class for 7 years certainly not 16.

@Livio I think you will find rossi was still on the little bikes in 96, 94 to 98 was doohans time and in 99 alex creville won the championship. re Doohan - In 1994, however, he won his first 500 cc World Championship. Thereafter, until 1998, he dominated the class, winning five consecutive 500 cc World Championships. re wins in a row - Michael "Mick" Doohan AM (born 4 June 1965 in Brisbane, Australia) is a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racing World Champion, who won five consecutive 500 cc World Championships. Only Giacomo Agostini with eight (seven consecutive) and Valentino Rossi with seven (five consecutive) have won more. really cant see how the claim he dominated for 16 years holds any water but he is certainly one of the greats!

@vrohopious Spellcheck had a problem with my spelling as well but didnt it was worth worrying about on a casual site such as this. You are right VR has better credentials than those other riders but they are the present and future VR is the past. Cal is improving, MM is improving DP set the best times and JL was close behind and is the current champion, yes there is some interest with VR trying to get competitive again and I am interested in him as well but not only HIM! I suffered the hype of what he would do on the Duc and it came to nil so am tiring of it - show me the results then I will take notice
