MotoGP » Dovi: Now the podium is not enough

mayi: @Bikenut but in 2010 when rossi lost 4 races due to leg injury and was struggling the rest of the season with the leg, dovi couldnt beat him while riding a repsol honda. On rossi's ducati years there is something you are conveniently forgetting Nicky hayden rode both the 2010 as well as 2011 Ducati. in 2011 the gap between the winner and hayden was on an average 20Sec more than in 2010 in almost every race which clearly suggest Ducati had done something very wrong with the 2011 bike. if casey stoner stayed he would also be a sitting duck same as vale.No doubt about that.
No - Nicky gave up trying.

Guna4699: Rossi was not far off from Stoner with Ducati,, What made the difference is that Ducati started to lose ground even while Stoner was there with them and held no ground by 2011, Now don't compare 2010 Valencia podium by Stoner and next day testing by Rossi on same bike, it's about difference between known devil for CS and unknown demon for VR... Ducati had attitude problem,, it needed a grand scale failure of best crew with best crew chief and rider for Ducati to start thinking about the flaws from their side,, Rossi would always be a better rider than Dovi no matter what bike they ride,
Not sure how many years you have been following MotoGP but On the whole Rossi has finished in front of Dovi this year but Dovi has finished in front of Rossi once so far this year. In 2011 and 2012 Dovi finished well ahead of Rossi, this year so far Rossi is only just ahead of Dovi so I don't think you can say that Rossi would always be a better rider than Dovi no ma

MotoGP » Dovi: Now the podium is not enough

realfan: @ bikeNUT 1st time on a new bike and you expect him to be as quick as Stoner who had been on the bike for years throughout its evolution getting used to all its quirks and problems, it's not me that's talking s#%t mate.
Rossi is a better racer than Dovi - agreed The Yamaha is a better package than the Ducati - agreed? And yet Dovi has beaten Rossi once this year and will do it again ???

MotoGP » Dovi: Now the podium is not enough

realfan:
bikenut: Well how do you think? The reason Dovi finished in front of Rossi in 2011 and 2012 is that Rossi couldn't get to grips with the Ducati - why else?
It's not so much that Rossi couldn't get to grips with the Ducati, more like the bike wasn't capable of better results. If you look at points tally for Rossi and Dovi on the Ducati, Rossi scored better than Dovi, it was only after Gigi took control and started making changes that Dovi's results started improving. Even Stoner's results were declining each year after winning the championship in 2007, and he's the one person who could ride around most of the bike's problems.
You are a real fan and that's rather touching but the bike was capable of better results - remember his first ride on the Ducati? It had won in the previous MotoGP race but certainly didn't set best time at that test with him on it so please don't talk s#%t.

MotoGP » Dovi: Now the podium is not enough

donuts: bikenut Rossi was top ducati rider his 2 years there and had podiums (not many). Dovi did nothing on the duc his first year there.... All Dovi's ducati podiums in the following years have come with an asterisk (open concessions). In 2004 Rossi switched from honda (a bike that won every race in 2003 bar one) to yamaha (a bike that had a single 3rd place in 2003) He won the championship for yamaha in 2004. Just think about that..... Who does that ? nobody's done that, nobody does that..... Most people remember this (maybe you don't) and have a high respect for VR. "he can't ride around problems" - epic face palm.
I took pity on you and hit the agree button but really Valentino doesn't need you to stand up for him, he is a great racer - no argument but the reality is he couldn't come to grips with the Ducati!

Stubb:
bikenut: Rubbish! some of the other teams have better riders so it's not a level playing field anyway, also some teams use less fair tactics on the track. A win is a win!
Yes, a win is a win ON equal terms! What if Bolts competitors would be allowed to use steroids. You think that would be fair too? And, they use fair tactics on track because all riders can do the same IF they have the skill. But you say that it is unfair to be a better rider and that skill should be leveled out with concessions? THAT is rubbish!
Think about it - is this a race between manufacturers or riders? If it's between manufacturers then the better riders should be handicapped :)

CC33: So if vale is a better racer then Dovi how would Dovi finish ahead of him,and wasn't Dovi lost when he first started riding the same P.O.S vale was.You must have a crystal ball to say that vale wouldn't be getting the same or better results on the gp15 as Dovi the guy that could only get one lucky win on the best bike in gps .The only team mate Dovi beat was Cal another neverbeen.
Well how do you think? The reason Dovi finished in front of Rossi in 2011 and 2012 is that Rossi couldn't get to grips with the Ducati - why else?

donuts: Garbodp Wow you're right Dovi just needed a bike to suit to suit his strengths. Open Factory Rules strengths that is..... With those strengths (just for Dovi) he would have stomped casey and dani at Repsol.
The only certainty in MotoGP is what has actually occurred. Everyone thought 2011 was going to be between Rossi and Lorenzo - until Rossi had a ride on the Ducati that is.............
