F1 » Buemi: Red Bull wasn’t my only option

@kiko - it has been widely reported that Ferrari are interested in Kubica and even went as far as to offer him a proof of fitness test in their car. So yes, Kubica to Ferrari if he is fit, I am serious. The pertinent question is whether or not he'll be fit by the time Ferrari show Massa the door (that is certainly when, not if).

F1 » Buemi: Red Bull wasn’t my only option

... but back to Buemi... this kid deluded if he thinks that he still has a shot at an RBR seat after being dropped by the junior team. What planet is he on? He has been DEmoted, not PROmoted. Ricciardo is clearly in the box seat in terms of in-house drivers for an RBR drive. A racing driver has to be confident, but Buemi is something else altogether and it's not working for him. EDIT by CRASH.NET! Driver insult removed.

F1 » Buemi: Red Bull wasn’t my only option

@mort - what are you talking about Ferrari being sold off by the government? Fiat, the Ferrari family & Muba Dhala own Ferrari SpA. The Italian government can't sell something it doesn't own. I do agree with you, however, that Victor has no clue what he's writing about. Vettel has a 3 year contract with the back-to-back constructor champions and Ferrari won't hire him while Alonso is there. Kubica to replace Massa if he's fit, otherwise Perez.

F1 » Alguersuari 'surprised' to get chop

I think most were surprised with you, mate. Buemi definitely deserved the chop, but Algersuari was perhaps a bit hard done by. However, what's done is done and this article shows he has maturity well beyond his years. A successful F1 driver or not, with this attitude I think he'll be successful in life whatever he does. I suspect HRT may now be looking his way. An all Spanish driver line up, I imagine, would look VERY attractive to them.

F1 » New line-up for Toro Rosso in F1 2012

Just an observation - all those saying Algersuari did well only ever mention the back half of the season. JA may or may not have deserved another year (I lean towards yes), but Buemi was definitely a dead horse not worth flogging. Vernge is very lucky to get a drive - I think it may have been due to the STR phylosophy of 'new young talent' in combination with some glimpes of speed, whereas Ricciardo I believe has made it solely on talent. I'm very excited for Ricciardo, I think he'll do some great things in F1.

F1 » Edwards confirmed as Brundle replacement

Watching in Australia, we get the BBC commentary feed through channel One. I'm very curious to know how BBC only showing 10 races will affect our coverage here, as One has always run the promo line "every race and qualifying live" and committed to the 2012 season sometime in the middle of this year. Excited to see Brundle go. I couldn't stand his "when I was at McLaren this" and "when I raced Schumacher at Spa that". I've not heard Edwards commentate anything before, but judging from the other comments here, it sounds promising.

F1 » Retirement far from Webber's mind as new Challenge begins

@Rob01 - That is my understanding as well. The all up weight is not in fact the hindrance, it is the ability to use ballast in the car for balance that is the issue, i.e. Vettel can and Webber can't, meaning that Webber's car is at a disadvantage before they even turn the... err... external starter motor. @FunkJ - the increase in minimum weight has not alleviated the problem as that extra weight is taken up with KERS and potentially also DRS hydraulics. I would also hazard a guess that the monocoque or safety cell is also now heavier due to increases in safety (namely penetration) requirements. Take a look at some photos of Webber from 2008 and compare them to now. He his a LOT skinnier than he used to be.

F1 » Ricciardo, Caterham rumours intensify as STR sits tight

@FunkJ - I care what @Richard has to say because his arguments are usually balanced and well thought out, leading to interesting and thought provoking analysis and debate. I don't agree with him on this occassion, but that doesn't mean I don't value his contribution. Pull your head in. @Richard - I think the point is that by all available measures, Ricciardo is a special talent. He was 2 whole seconds quicker than the next best in his young driver test at end 2010 (Vettel got pole by only 0.031s), he has been quicker than both Buemi and Algersuari in Friday P1 sessions this year, and has had the measure of Liuzzi after being thrown in the deep end at HRT. He just keeps coming up with the goods no matter the challenge.

F1 » Maldonado holds on to Williams seat

Maldonado can drive a car quickly from time to time, however I don't rate him as a good racing driver. A good racing driver is more than just occasionally quick - they are calm, level headed and smart. Maldonado is none of these. His episode at Spa with Hamilton is a classic example. As is his inexplicable behaviour regarding blue flags at Abu Dhabi - what idiot doesn't learn from their first mistake and goes on to get punished for the same thing a second time?
