F1 » Ricciardo: Future is in my hands

@Biggerthinking1 - we get it, you're in love with di Resta. Can you please give up on this "quarter decade" nonsense? For a start, who says that? And in any case, like I explained in a previous comment, it's wrong - Ricciardo has been an F1 race driver for under 2 years, half a year of which was in an HRT. How many points would you have expected you're beloved di Resta to score in an HRT, for comparative purposes? Ricciardo has been in a Torro Rosso for one and a third seasons which, up until recently, has been a very long way off the relative performance of the Torro Rosso Vettel won in (which was a Red Bull chassis).

F1 » F1 POLL: Who next for Red Bull Racing?

@Biggerthinking1 - Neither Chilton or Bianchi have scored a top 6 finish, should they be considered as not good enough? And don't bleat on "quater of a decade" like it's an age, it's 2.5 years, which is wrong anyway - he came into HRT half way through the 2011 season, meaning he's had under 2 years as an F1 race driver. What was he supposed to do in an HRT, anyway? In fact, he's actually had only one and a third seasons in a Torro Rosso. So to whom are you comparing Ricciardo's results? How can you gauge his talent when there's no way to know how the Torro Rosso stacks up in relative terms to the rest of the field? For all you know, it could well be a worse car than the Marussia and Ricciardo and Vernge are working miracles with it every weekend.

F1 » F1 POLL: Who next for Red Bull Racing?

@MaddMe - Yes, Vettel managed higher results - in a Torro Rosso that was half Red Bull. It is no longer an apples and apples comparison as STR build their own cars in toto. One must also consider the relative pace of the car against the rest of the field. This is why I used the 2010 young driver test as an example of Ricciardo's ability - the relative pace of the Red Bull was a known quantity & Ricciardo tore than quantity apart.

F1 » F1 POLL: Who next for Red Bull Racing?

@Biggerthinking1, @MaddMe - you can't compare Vettel's Torro Rosso win with Ricciardo and Vergne. It most definitely was not "the same car". For Vettel's win, the team gambled on a wet set up and it payed off and the car was a Red Bull chassis, not a genuine Torro Rosso car like the regulations now require. The Ricciardo detractors on here have short memories. Do you not remember his 2010 Young Driver Test at Abu Dhabi, where he annihilated the field? That included going more than 1.6s quicker than experienced test driver Gary Paffett in a McLaren that was only 0.03s behind the Red Bull's pole time in Q3. Vettel was only 0.03s quicker than the next best - Ricciardo was well over a second quicker on the first day and exactly 0.7s quicker on the second day. He also consistently out-performed the regular Torro Rosso drivers when he was driving for that team in FP1 during 2011. The kid is a star, it's just damn hard to show that in a pretty crappy STR7 or STR8.

F1 » Kimi takes Perez ‘punishment’ to new level

I can't believe that there is no-one on here backing Perez! Both Button and Alonso were smart enough to give Perez racing room, why wasn't Raikkonen? Raikkonen wasn't turning into the apex, he was closing off the entry to the corner by taking a very shallow line and squeezing Perez into the wall. No driver was taking that line into the chicane all weekend! I don't think Raikkonen should be penalized, but I do think the collision was (mostly) his doing. Perez has been racing very hard the last few rounds and I say good on him. He has been aggressive but safe, unlike Maldonado of old and Grosjean still.
