MotoGP » Casey Stoner: Why I'm leaving MotoGP

The next time someone says that Rossi has been good for the sport with all the fans he has brought in, think of this thread. I have for years argued that Rossi has been a malign influence and the only thing Rossi has ever been good for is Rossi. A sizable number of his fans have slowly been destroying the sport's greatest asset - its cameradrie, and now they have been a major influence in Stoner getting fed up - and still they can't stop bitching. I think I will give up too - until Rossi goes and his ***** element fans (which thinkfully is not all his fans) go with him.

MotoGP » Stoner under pole time in red-flagged warm-up

To an extent you are quite right - I make no claims to distingush between Ago/Doohan/Shwantz/Rainey/Hailwood/Rossi/Lorenzo/Stoner and many more I could name. That is impossible - and have said so many times before. But there IS plenty of deductive logic to make reasonable objective conclusions on who the current state of comparison is and has been over the past few years - which means direct comparisons of Stoner, Lorenzo Pedrosa and Rossi. Do you want me to write it up? I'm happy to have it disected - but expect any criticism to be equally backed by more than simple opinion (though inevitably there is some of that in there as you suggest).

MotoGP » Portuguese MotoGP, Estoril - Warm-up

I said about half way through last year that Stoner could be even more dominant this year as everyone would be having the 'difficulties' of dealing with new equipment and Stoner had shown he could master that very well. I think last weekend and so far this weekend have shown that to be true. Both tracks are historically ones Stoner has not done that well on. As for Qatar - does anyone really think that he would have been beaten except for teh arm pump? That could still happen this race, so its not over by any means, but Stoner is unquestionably the best at the minute. He did four 1:37s (more than anyone else) and TWO 1:36s! Only one lap (his second) was more than a 1:37!

MotoGP » 'Good first day' sees Stoner fastest

@ BensPies Good point about Stoner being 3rd/4th - or it would have been if you mentioned that he was doing a race simulation and unlike Lorenzo who said the tyres were going off after a few laps, Stoner found the bike got quicker as they went on (on soft tyres). I suggest you read the story before commenting. IIRC, Lorenzo was 4th/5th when he was doing his simulations during SepangII - but whatever it was it was close to where Stoner was today. These two, as they did last year, will be the two chamnpionship contenders.
