MotoGP » 'Decent' day for Rossi, competitive if wet

@ zoom's mom And if you think that Rossi is a 'true' 6th you are as deluded as he his. If it wasn't for the tragedy of two weeks ago that 6th would have been at least 7th, would still have been if Lorenzo was riding even in the state he is now and could have easily been 8th ignoring Lorenzo (as Edwards could possibly have out qualified him again). In other words, in 'normal' circumstances yet another 9th place and 1.6ish seconds away from the front.

@ Just A Thought "What's most interesting to me about Stoner's time at Valencia is that he actually had some data from last years end of season testing. A luxury a lot of the other riders have had at tracks the whole season. Makes you wonder what he could of done if he had a little bit more data on each circuit with Honda." Exactly, its a point I have been making a for a while now. This really is the first tangible evidence of same.

He's not the nest overtaker in the class, Jorge is better, but Casey blisteringly fast. I really do think you are allowing your preceptions to be coloured by his Ducati years - and that was a huge handicap as has been laid bare this year. There are so many examples this year of Stoner doing amazing overtakes - but his two passes on Pedrosa and Lorenzo at Laguna Seca really underline the point I feel.

Here are the modded points and positions if Stoner is removed updated to Japan (the last Race Lorenzo raced at as I doubt he would have crashed if he wasn't chasing Stoner and leading teh World Championship) Rider -Pts/Modded/Place/Modded Place Stoner -300/0/1/N/A Lorenzo -260/289/2/1 Pedrosa -195/214/4/3 Dovisioso -196/235/3/2 Simoncelli-119/142/8/6 Edited because the formatting went south so it was intelligable (sort of) Edited to add: Lorenzo then has 6 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds out of the 15 races. It also makes Spies 4th and Rossi 5th One final edit - I have, just checked, including Australia and this race, Lorenzo WOULD be world champion again no matter what Pedrosa does this weekend as he would have 59 point lead. Spies would now have a win, and two each of 2nds and 3rds (5 podiums).

@ Another big eurosport yawn from baldy and fatso Well, I did a full recalculation of all points and results up to about Race 12 or 13 and Lorenzo was totally dominant - not quite as much as Stoner proved - but not far off, so no, I don't think the comment is unjust. The fact is without Stoner Honda wouldn't have had a shout of anything again this year just as Ducati are missing him this year.

Rossi's fans really crack me up ... now they are praising Rossi for the very thing they have been bagging Stoner for ding the past three years whch they used as justification for saying Stoner was rubbish. Hillarious. someone predicted Stonert won't win next year. Well, next year EVERYONE will be on the same playing field as Stoner and Rossi were this year - no meaningful set-up data for each meeting. Rossi has shown he can't do it, Stoner obviously can. The rest will probably move a little towards Rossi whch means Stoner could be even more dominant next year.

MotoGP » Rossi 'very slow' and 'very sorry', Hayden sixth

I then told them that Rossi was considered to be one of the greats of the sport - the best of all time by some. They didn't think that was right and found it hard to reconcile with the facts. When I told them Rossi was taken on by Ducati because he was thought to be the best at developing a bike - they felt he can't be very good, because the evidence showed he was not doing very well. In fact, they pretty much echo'd the points which Stoner's fans keep saying and which Rossi's fans keep dismissing without any logical justification. I find this interesting, becuase it is how future generations will look at the data - and it does show that Rossi's future standing IS being damaged by this episode whatever the Rossi fans bellieve.

@JimmyJimmy "You don't want to know what they said" I'd like to hear when they said. What did they say? As you asked ... I gave them a sheet of this year's race FP times from a single session first and asked them to draw conclusions about riders and predict what the race results might be - justifynig their reasoning. Rossi came out poorly - as you might expect, generally thought to not be very good. I then gave them Rossi's record and asked them if that changed their views - and they then thought the bike must not be very good. I then gave then Stoner's stats from his time at Ducati and they said Stoner must be a much better rider than Rossi. None had any idea of the sport (they were all girls and had no interest in it as such). I then told them that Rossi was considered to be one of the greats of the sport - the best of all time by some. They didn't think that was right and found it hard to reconcile with the facts. When I told them Rossi was taken on by Ducati because he w

@ SwissJudge Why not show a friend who knows nothing about motoGP Rossis achievements over the last 10 years. Then show your friend Rossis achievements this year. What do you think your friend will say? The bike must be crap. Actually, I did - 30 students in an academically selective school around age 13. I also showed them Stoner's results on the Ducati. It was an exercise in logical reasoning. They had to draw their own conclusions and justify it. I used this as a curiosity to see what some unbiased disinterested parties would come up with. You don't want to know what they said, your pro Rossi sensitivities couldn't cope. What was interesting was their logic was much better reasoned and better presented than 99% of the comments on here.
