MotoGP » Valentino Rossi, Marlboro and Yamaha

@Bob "If you take a look at the lap times from 2010 and 2011, you will see that Rossi was generally riding at least as fast and often faster than Stoner did the year before. The Ducati had stayed constant while the other bikes improved." A guy who was winning races and getting podiums on the Ducati was replaced by a rider who could not do the same. It's an irrefutable fact Bob. Additionally, the new rider was also hired for his self-promoted development skills. If the bike didn't improve, some of the responsibility must fall on him. You can't have it both ways. You can't say "I had a lot to do with the development machine" for a winning bike and "I had nothing to do with the development of this bike" for a losing bike - especially when the previous rider was having a measure of success before handing the bike to you.

So, Ducati pay Rossi an over-priced mint to sign with them. He delivers no results and no development progress. Rossi then leaves with Ducati's sponsor of ten years. Wow. Talk about screwing someone over. That being said, I do hope it comes to pass - at least the Rossi on the factory Yamaha part. He'll be back on his 2010 pace. Will be great to see Rossi and Lorenzo battling it out again. Although, I do think Rossi is struggling a little on the this year's tyres while Lorenzo seems to have taken to them nicely.

MotoGP » Lorenzo untouchable in Italy, Stoner off

Well done Jorge and Bradl. Gotta feel for Nicky. I can only describe Stoner's rear tyre selection as idiotic. From any aspect you look at it (and I'm talking pre-race, not hindsight), that tyre selection was so obviously the wrong decision. It's right up there with his monumentally stupid decision to run wets in 2009 at Donnington when his rivals ran slicks. Desperate, stupid, slower. He was always going to struggle to make the podium this race, but that tyre selection guaranteed nothing but problems. For Stoner, this year is starting to look very much like his bad years on the Ducati. We're seeing stupid riding and stupid decisions, all part of a desperate mindset. Totally off the rails. His passing move on Bautista made me feel embarrassed to be counted as one of Stoner's supporters. That was the move of a spoilt brat. They both so easily could have come down.

MotoGP » Stoner: 'Win or bin' one turn early, slams marshals

@shamu "But his speed has only brought him only two championships from being a backmarker in the 125s and 250s... Stoner is fast but his career is a failure considering what he can do with a perfect bike." You have a couple of untruths in there. Stoner was not a backmarker in either 125 or 250. Stoner's career to-date in MotoGP has been a terrific success, not a failure as you suggest. In his 6 completed years, he has had a decent bike for two of those and won the championship on both occasions. In his 6 years in MotoGP, he is the winningest rider. That is the opposite of failure. If his performance over the past 6 years constitutes "failure", what does it say about every other rider in the field over that period - including Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Rossi? I think you are just trying to cause trouble and push an anti-Stoner agenda rather than engage in genuine commentary and discussion.

MotoGP » Stoner: 'Win or bin' one turn early, slams marshals

@Shamu "What's stopping him from getting championships every year?" The same thing that has stopped many a good rider, including Rossi in the past two years - a bike that is not up to it. "And yeah, he was a backmarker in the 125 and 250. More in the 125s." While riding less than championship wining machinery, this is Stoner's record in these classes. In 2004 in 125s, he was fifth in the championship with 6 podiums including 1 win. In 2005 in 250s, he was second in the championship with 10 podiums including 5 wins. A record a backmarker would kill for. I'll repeat what I said. What you said contained untruths. You appear to be more interested in causing trouble and pushing an anti-Stoner agenda than you are in engaging in genuine commentary and discussion.

cont... And I think his mental state has deteriorated since that announcement. I think he thought he'd get a certain reaction along the lines of, "Please don't quit Casey, we need you. We're so so sorry and we didn't mean it. Please, please, please reconsider. The sport needs you." Instead the reaction was, "Really? You're leaving? Well, we're sorry to see you go but, hey, if that's what you want to do so be it." Of course, that's speculation on my part but, in my opinion, he has definitely lost the plot since his retirement announcement. His riding, manner and comments at this meeting all point to that in my opinion. I'm a Stoner fan, not a Stoner fanboy. I hope he wins this year's championship and I hope he changes his mind about retirement. But most of all, I want him to grow the F up and start being a man instead of a spoilt boy. He has the talent to achieve anything in this sport. But it is what is going on inside his own head that is going to end up beating him.
