F1 » Belgian Grand Prix – Free practice results (1)

richard: fp 1 is all about settling in engines and cars, and nothing can be assessed from any times. for instance, honda said that they were just running systems checks. rbr were trying low drag set ups etc etc. even quali is not a true indication of race pace
Or in the case of Lotus, it gives them a chance to test the strength of the Armco and their skill at rebuilding wrecked front ends.

F1 » Power Unit component use (after 10 rounds of 19)

107SS2009: mrfill, That is a lot better (quote) . They are going to introduce/use two new engines each driver over this race weekend while taking one penalty each driver, in one go during this race weekend, they intend to use one in FP1 and FP2 and the other for FP3, qualifying and race, if the engines were to be introduced/used over different race weekend, they would have had to take two penalties. the aim of this move is as I have explained, which is to reduce mileage. every race outing an engine goes through means less power output and more chance of trouble.
They can spread the mileage around the PUs but unless they intend to do fewer practice miles overall, it won't make any difference. This move is to reduce penalties to 1 instead of 2 and is being done at a track which they have little hope.

F1 » Rosberg disappointed but not dismissing chances

richard: there are two things to remember. first of all, in sector 1, nico was faster. in sector 2, lulu was faster each time, and nico also was faster every time in sector 3, giving him an edge on lulu on all laps. however, nico had a mess up on his last lap, so he could well have been ahead of lulu. also, the second positon is the favoured one at spa!
One more thing to remember... "even quali is not a true indication of race pace" :)
