MotoGP » British MotoGP to Circuit of Wales!

m1keypies: If the circuit is built I fail to see why it should receive tax payers money when other circuits (and many other sports) get nothing.
Chicken and egg. Its unlikely the circuit will be built without public money. Already Dorna have had £2.5m provided through 'loan guarantees for development of the circuit'. Actually it was to purchase the rights for a race they have no chance of staging next year (and 2016 possibly) as construction has not started. Similar to Wembley Stadium? Original estimate £320m, start date 2000, completion due 2003. Reality was cost around £1000m, start date 2003, completion 2007. 4 years late and £580m overspent. That flashy new wing building at Silverstone cost £27m and they struggled to pay that with all the events there. How they intend to recoup a minimum of £315m for this is unknown. 100000 people paying £100 a ticket is £10m and there are expenses to come out. It doesn't add up.

MotoGP » British MotoGP to Circuit of Wales!

@ZIPPYCHIPS This £250m project has in one year gone up to £315m. Work cannot start owing to unresolved common land problems. £2m of public money 'to develop the track' has been paid to DORNA. Another £500000 has also been paid to DORNA 'for the CoW to retain the rights to own the GB Round of the MotoGP Championship from 2015 onwards.'. Additional payments to DORNA will be required over future months. People with more clout than me say it cannot operate until 2017 at the earliest and at the current rate of increase the cost could be £500m by then. The COTA at Austin cost £200m. You see I remember the Donington debacle where a huge amount of money was wasted and a reasonable track was butchered when the money ran out. This is looking like a re-run of that. Call it what you like but would you be prepared to invest your life savings in this project?

MotoGP » British MotoGP to Circuit of Wales!

I'm sure it will be lovely and in 12 months time fans will love driving down the new motorway, the new high speed rail link or arriving at the new international airport and checking in to one of the the numerous new hotels before venturing to the track, past the glorious green painted slag heaps where for only a weeks wages you may be able to see some distant specks through a thick mist (assuming the weather is fine) trying to stay on the tarmac. I'm sure this will be as popular as holding the World Cup in Qatar in mid-summer and no-one would be so stupid as to do that. Yakky dar.

F1 » F1 driver of the year so far….. revealed

MikeLite: Ricciardo is astonishingly quick and has great opportunistic race craft He is also proving what I have been saying for the last few years now, that vettel is merely an average to good driver and cannot be regarded as the same quality as Alonso Hamilton etc.. And before some of you go " yes but this car doesn't suit him" a true champion would have rectified that after the first couple of races. Truth is he is getting his ass whipped by a relative newcomer who nobody really rated. Imagine if Hamilton or Alonso were his team mates?
If - imagine - wish - what if - lulu is the best - Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn......
ghog - Before you drop off, re-read it omitting the middle 4 lines.....

MotoGP » Bradley Smith staying at Tech 3 Yamaha

bildo: He has obviously been re signed to keep Brits paying for pay tv. Same reason Dorna want Jack Miller in Moto GP, in order to get Aussies to part with their dollars. Sad innit?
6m Brits get BT Sport for free but the viewing figures are supposedly 155,000 (although that is only for the IPTV stream) . Re-signing BS was no great surprise once Herve's choice of 'young gun' became unavailable. However, if/when Redding gets a proper Honda, then you may see a resurgence of interest in the UK, as he is a much better prospect.

MotoGP » Which circuit should host the British MotoGP?

Guna4699: Roll back the years and let us all revisit the Donnington park.. tight twisty with ups and downs... Craner curves would be epic... Don't know for what the took this epic circuit out of the calendar..
Taken off because of the failed F1 plan in 2008. By the time the money ran out, the circuit had been dug up and Silverstone nipped in and signed up motoGP and F1 in 2010. The motoGP deal was supposedly for 10 years. I guess it was for 5 years with a renewal for a further 5 providing no-one else came along with a bigger purse.

MotoGP » Factories set for first Michelin test

@LLarry So you prefer having a situation where the richest teams can have exotic, hyper-expensive tyres specially made for each track and the smaller teams getting stuffed just because they can't afford to buy a tyre maker? That creates a seriously unlevel playing field. Since there has been a control tyre, it has not been one team that has dominated. Both Honda and Yamaha have won titles (rider and manufacturer) - in 5 years Honda won the manufacturers 3 times and the riders twice. Yamaha won 2 manufacturers and 3 riders titles. Looks pretty balanced to me and at least the small teams don't feel that yet another cash dependent factor is preventing them from progressing.
