F1 » Stewart maintains view Vettel still isn't an F1 great

You guys..... I've already tried having this whole debate with JohnO. His basic idea is to try and make the RB look bad so he can "try" and make Seb look better than he is. I still agree with Stewart. To me a true "great" is a driver who does amazing thing before and after they have the best car, drove "epic" races for the history books and generally be know as easily the best driver in the field. Seb is not easily the best driver, I would say Ferdi is. Seb did nothing outright in the STR as Monza was a fluke - All the front runners were caught out in quali because of rain and started well down the field so he didn't beat them outright and fair and square, but still he took the lucky opportunity and grabbed it so he does score some points there. Compare that to Senna's first win where he did win quali and the race fair and square by skill. His first 2 years at Lotus he got 15 poles and 4 wins, compared to Sebs lucky 1 and 1. Thats the difference between a great and pretty good driver

F1 » Stewart: 2012 'as good as we could have had'

@ Johno - So you think because of Webber that the RB7 was not a dominate car ??? Alonso 2WDC he had way more competition from people with close car performance. BTW Im fair to Vettle when its due. I just can't stand people claiming he is a Schu, Clark, Fangio or Senna. Anyway pleas write me a list of who "dominated" without a dominate car. There a very few people who won a WDC without the best car, but dominate the season without a dominate car, you will be hard pressed to find one.

@ Johno - You gotta be fair to Webber. His season was over in the first 3-4 races with the seized rear spring and multiple KERS issues which recurred all year. He hated the tyres and the clutch which RB didn't change for him until the last 4 races - then his starts improved dramatically. Also the car was perfect for Seb and Mark disliked it. So in actual fact with the combination of things Mark has a bad season. But he still got more fastest laps then Seb. So it still was domination as the car was perfect for Seb. You cant dominate without a dominate car and the RB7 was indeed that. It was Sebs perfect car. You can't dominate in a crap car. It like driving a Ford Pinto compared to a Porsche.

Some peoples idea of a "boring" season is any season in which their favored driver does not win. @ JohnO - That's the best thing I've heard you say on here. 2010 was a cracker. But honestly how can you say RB have not been the best car for the last 3 1/2 years. 2009- Newey copied diffuser became the best car. 2010- RB was a quali beast and very fast on most circuits. 2011- Domination 2012- Newey got off to a slow start but got around the EBD rules, double DRS etc. The RB has still been the best chassis all year, but lacked HP on some circuits, as well as Neweys extra downforce parts to make up for straight line speed.
