F1 » Marussia: 'Obvious' we will use Ferrari or Mercedes engines in 2014

Honda will be in F1 soon, and I bet Toyota returns in two years. Let's hope the continued rumours of VW prove to be true as well. The world economy may still be in the dumps but all three of these manufacturers are in significantly better shape than two years ago, and smaller displacement turbos make sense to their business plan.

F1 » Hamilton: 'No fun' with these tyres

I think they should construct tires that last for 20 to 25 laps without falling off. They should build two compounds that are as much as a second different in terms of pace. They should demand each car run both compounds and make a minimum of two pitstops. And they should seriously consider refuelling, with tanks that hold enough fuel for two thirds of a race, forcing one fuel stop from a gravity fed tank, and allowing teams to start light and pit early if they want. The DRS has more than taken care of the inability to pass issue.

I was a fan of these new tires and now I am not. Pirelli have taken the degradation too far in my opinion. The last Indy car race saw Hinchcliffe and Castro Neves battle hard for the final stint on the two compounds. Their respective pace represented their tire choice but their pace was very similar and the tires lasted well.

F1 » Villeneuve: Vettel's actions deliberate and stupid

Love him or hate him, he won a WDC, sat on the pole in his first race, and he won a champ car series and the Indy 500 when it meant something, He drove his heart out for his teams and even Patrick Head admitted that JV was very quick. JV's point is valid: team orders do exist and you are contracted to the team. If F1 powers don't want these scenarios, change the rules.

F1 » Vettel: I messed up, I'm sorry

Fish fingers, you ask a good question, what will RBR do? 20 days until the next race and lots of "closed door" discussions for sure. Personally, I think RBR actions will be dictated by what they think Seb is doing for the next or following year. I still think he may have a Ferrari option in his pocket and if so, his life at RBR will prove difficult. Otherwise, he is the three time champ and the team will do much to patch things up.

Taipan, You know better than what you state in your last post. Of course we all would prefer no team orders. However, they exist and in this instance Mark followed them, faithfully turning down the power to conserve engine and tires. Remember last weekend? RBR had cause for concern. He had gapped Seb until the orders came in and would have very likely won the race on pace. Seb took advantage of not obeying team orders to win the race, and brought the wrath of everyone including Horner and Newey down upon him. Thinking back, Pironi would never have been in a position to pass Villeneuve without disobeying team orders. If orders exist then drivers must follow them. The results of not doing so can be catastrophic.

We all have our opinions but the only opinion that really counts is Christian Horner's. This is what he said: He knew what the communication was. He had the communication. He chose to ignore it. He put his interest beyond what the team's position was. Tough words for a public forum and I think Seb's relationship with the team principles may have been significantly damaged. You can p*** off your teammate but you better not p**** off the boss.

Well, since Seb has demonstrated an inability to understand and follow team orders, I think the team should remove this responsibility from him for a few races. They should allow Mark to determine Seb's setup, tire choice, wing choice, and gearing. Then I suspect he would fully understand the give and take of the team approach to F1.
