So, Open category teams can develop engine mid season. Ducati has the money and expertise to do that, much more than the other Open teams. Allowed more fuel too. Save cost? Not really.... Ducati could well dominate the open class. Also, the current rules will allow Ducati to catch up with the other 'factory' manufacturers who arent allowed to develop engines. A whole year (or maybe more) for Ducati to do so. Which is good, we need 3 competitive manufacturers, or perhaps even more. But to say the aim of the rule is to save cost, that's bullshit. Which is what Honda is trying to say, because Dorna is considering Open Class rule to all teams includig factory. Then Ducati will dominate for many years to come, like they did in WSBK.

And when u take out the competitive elements of motogp, might as well ask, why not stop racing? Why not give the money to the staff as bonuses? Why not invest it in making more bikes and sell more bikes? Which is probably Honda's view. As i repeat, Honda or Yamaha or Suzuki do not need motogp. But will motogp recruit riders? Will motogp hire engineers to make up teams? Will motogp produce bikes? Does motogp have the expertise to produce and run teams? If not, why push manufacturers around with rules?

ECU determines how the bike runs. Everything on a GP bike has to be synchronised. Having a controlled ECU means teams have to customise EVERYTHING they currently have to work best with the new ECU. Means more research needed. There is no cost saving involved, only more money needs to be spent. Which is fair, as u need to spend money in racing. Lets not kid ourselves into thinking of saving money as far as racing is involved. But where does this new rule lead to? If teams later feel its not feasible, and Dorna change rules again, more money is needed just to go backwards. Just like the control tyre problems, which set some people backwards and more money involved. For goodness sake, let motoGp be motoGpOtherwise make it a 1-make race to please everyone who wants 'fair racing' or feel their skill has been hard done by due to different (inferior) specs. Let the RND stop once and for all in the name of cost saving. Use less rubber to stop wastage.

RFS131: I'll tell you what's more important than the manufacturer, the FAN. If we don't like the state of competition in the sport then it will never survive. Money in my pocket but just the opposite for the manufacturers. So who needs who again?
Motogp the sport needs the fan. As for Honda, probably a small percentage of the millions of moped/ bike riders across the world watch motogp or even know what their achievement was in motogp. Cbr 600s, 900s, 1000s were sold by containers worldwide despite not being represented officially in WSBK for years. Affordable cubs and mopeds were sold by the millions worldwide and there is no moped category in motogp. People continue to buy their bikes because of quality and competitive pricing. How did they achieve that?
