MOTOGP » Cal Crutchlow explains Tech 3 contract timing

@k9sams while it's true that Hayden only renewed for 1 year it's also true that that is the only factory seat outside Suzuki available for next year. As such you can bet that there will be plenty of competition for that seat even if Ducati are no more competitive at the end of this year than they are now. Cal has put himself in a position where he is going to have to fight for a competitive ride for next year. He could have signed to Tech3 for two years had he wanted to, but clearly he thought he was being clever by only signing for one. Or maybe he took poor advice from his agent/manager.

MOTOGP » Ezpeleta: BBC to BT like 500cc to MotoGP

@FANTICMAN240 sorry but you clearly no very little about BT yourself. Firstly the cabling is down to Openreach which was spun off from BT by the regulators and is effectively a separate company. Secondly when a new house is built any decent builder will put in cabling and ducting to the nearest POP. This is usually a green cabinet in the street. New developments usually have their own cabinet. Where problems really arise is when the ducting and infrastructure hasn't been installed by the developer. Openreach may have problems getting wayleave from the local authority to do the civils to lay the cable to the house. This is particularly the case where new roads have protection orders on them which prevent utilities from digging them up except in an emergency. I suspect your friend really has an argument with the developer rather than BT.

@martin really what are you on? MotoGP is in rude health financially and that doesn't look like changing any time soon. MotoGP does not get huge viewing figures in the UK, indeed from what I can gather figures have dropped since 2009. Interesting isn't it that the peak audience figure came early on in the BBCs exclusive contract and have fallen since. Probably because the BBC actually bothered promoting it back then and don't now. I doubt that Dorna are happy with that. Hopefully BT will promote the series and with every Sky customer a potential viewer I don't see that harming the figures. Wordlwide however the UK market is insignificant, Dorna are concentrating on larger and growing markets. Furthermore do you know who is the rights holder for WSBK? That would be Dorna.

MOTOGP » Cal Crutchlow explains Tech 3 contract timing

@pp916 when he spoke to the BBC it sounded very much to me like he was bad mouthing Yamaha. And he took some flack for that. If he has no contract for 2014 then Yamaha and Tech3 between them have every right to sign who they like to that seat. Now it seems like he's realized that he didn't behave like a mature professional and is trying belatedly to do so. If you look at his interviews last year it seems that he swung between petulant teenager and mature professional all year. Maybe sometimes he needs to think before he speaks to the media.

@WTF so the BBC "took" sports away from ITV and Eurosport did they? No they bid more. And then they went to pay per view? Wrong. Subscription. Just what was to stop ITV or Europsport or anybody else outbidding BT this time round? Nothing at all. If they didn't bid enough, then they didn't want it enough. Your view of the world is somewhat twisted. The BBC have no control over how much any other broadcaster bids. ITV are certainly not "competent broadcasters" they are in profit these days because they have cut their costs and show mostly cheap to make TV. They simply would no pay enough for MotoGP, look at their usual sunday daytime schedules and tell me why they would pay a lot of money for MotoGP. It doesn't fit in.

@CB41 Ezpalata did not make the mistake of changing to four strokes. The manufacturers wanted that particular change on the grounds that the two strokes were not advertising their four stroke road bikes. The FIM and Dorna were under considerable pressure from the manufacturers (not least Honda) to make the change for several years. So if Ezpelata made a mistake it was only in bowing to pressure from the MSMA.
