Remember 2009? The pressure was off and he had nothing to prove and he had a great season helping to develop a dog of a car into a race winning machine. 2013 could see much of the same, the ingredients are there.

5 DNF's due to mechanical failures... To put 2012 into context, retirements whilst leading convincingly in Singapore and Abu Dhabi and mechanical issues in Suzuka and S Korea threw away Lewis' title chances just like they did for Kimi in 2005 and 2003. And that's not mentioning the countless pit stop issues McLaren has at the start of the year which threw away several points. It takes a team to win, Lewis wasted a good car in 2010 and 2011 whereas McLaren wasted a great car in 2012, they were never on the top of their game together after 2008.

Taipan, the fact you stated that Lewis has had the a car with the best reliability of any driver in F1 history means that everything else you say loses creditability. Wish Lewis all the best with his Mercedes adventure, it may take a little while but I'm sure they will find success together

The CART teams did this at the end of 2002 and look how that turned out... IndyCar have a great product, they just need to market the thing properly! It's bad enough they don't show race highlights on YouTube anymore and the full races they upload are only available for American viewers.

Money may have have played a part in getting this role for Max but he has proven himself more than capable of mixing it with the big names in GP2 and therefore worthy of a position with an F1 team. Good luck to him, it's good to see another young Brit doing well on the international racing scene.

It's a shame to see him leave the BBC. Jake has grown into his role presenting Formula One tremendously and the banter between himself, Eddie and DC is always entertaining to watch! Wish him the best of luck for his new role with the new BT project, hopefully they can show Sky Sports a thing or two...

A ban was probably the right call but I'm sure most would agree that it is slightly harsh considering the amount of times this year that Maldonado has escaped with a minor penalty for similar incidents.
