MotoGP » Riders want lighter MotoGP bikes


Bring back 500cc 2T! We can dream. Anyhow, MotoGP needs to be faster than WSB for obvious reasons. The engineering minds out there surely have ways to cut weight and cost while retaining durability and performance relative to WSB. It is a balance thing, though. The enormous grip generated by current rubber dictates what chassis characteristics need to be, and what torque curves are applied. Less grip from new tire mfr? Less fuel & engine output? New rules again???

Hmm, let's see... You tried, and did your best. You chose not to 'harp and howl' about your machinery, your crewchiefs, your management, oh,wait, did you race at that level? Club racing vs the top tier differ, ever so slightly. These riders are career professional racers. They trust their lives to their machinery and support staff. The combination has a slight bearing on their future. The riders speak for themselves, and on behalf of their sponsors. What might you say if you were in those lead-weighted shoes!? Or should we trust that you'd rely on your KenLuck to make it all better?

@kenluckykid69 - bro, you're taking Hayden's career mighty personally! Did he lap you on the dirt oval, or stuff you at an AMA race? Or did he snake your girl? Regardless, all your comments are OK, so long as you feel better about yourself at the end of the day. @Johnny05 - i agree, those guys are trying their best, on the bike Honda engineered for CRT rules. Does anyone know about Redding's 2015 contract details? I recall something about him using the Production/Open bike this year with an upgrade to a Factory machine in 2015? If he can learn to squeeze it all out of a slow bike now, he'll be far better with the upgrade later.

@kenluckykid69 - it's interesting, to me, to see the way things in MotoGP work themselves out. The facts don't bother me (i don't have a screenname made to drop hatred.) I have as much control over riders' contracts as you do: Zero. BTW, i've been stuffed in a race, didn't take it personally - but did put my head down to nail a clean line past the guy that stood me up. That's racing. Regardless, i'm no alien. I'm just a race fan that gets a good laugh out of any human going berzerk on the 'net. :)

@talentfan exactly! Gigi walks in, makes changes to infrastructure & tweaks existing chassis to help the riders to do their thing. Honda just wet their pants, even before any large chassis and engine redesign is released by Ducati. Despite being hit by the threat of new classification (factory2 or whatever,) Gigi's gotta have a tiny bit of satisfaction - it's gotta be fun making 'the man' squirm!

hello all. this exercise is great, picking apart a rider's words, which are merely words. it was reported that jL99 had problems with throttle response that affected his performance at the limit, reflected by his early lap times. cal's on a new package this year, with larger design issues than some tps/fuel/ignition software tweaks. as a mere fan, i'm gonna let the professionals go about their work. let's see what dalligna, riders & team can develop-- but development does take time. it's all conjecture-- i'm guessing that they'll push the current equipment as far as possible, to find true chassis/mechanical shortcomings that they can't cure. dalligna needs to see what he needs to see, before building something from scratch. makes sense to me...

@ pcxmac : the rc213v in question was a base model. Rearview mirrors and turn signals were not included! Really, though, imagine if that was you, taking that glance- all clear- a split-second decision to negotiate turn one as fast as possible from that slow roll... Naah, wait until the last backmarker passes. It'll be safer. @ geoffrey spears : good words! Since it was the Australian round, does anyone wonder what CS27 would have said had he been on the grid? Boycott?

@dacron - i'm pretty much with you on this. Lotsa ppl crying about their favorite getting black flagged. for me, it's not about any certain rider, it's about how to make sure that this sort of disqualification doesn't happen in the future- should they ever try this pitstop circus again. A simple wave of the Bridgestone flag at the start/finish tower will be the Pit-in signal :) ...&seriously, no excuses for the Bridgestone fail.
