F1 » Ecclestone calls for F1 power unit to be dropped

richard: some of those now moaning above, are those who were calling for the v8s to be retained and for no v6 turbos. now suddenly they are saying leave the current engines!!?????? bernie and others are calling for a change back to v8 or similar, and you criticise him? why? it basically makes sense and at least we might get back to proper racing. it is not just the price that is the problem, after all, ferrari and renault are not going to accept a cheaper merc engine to be used by their teams. it is mercs intransigence that is the problem, and so that makes the best alternative to go back to cheaper na engines.
There hasn't been "proper" racing for years. Changing the engine back won't change that - all it will do is create more unnecessary cost to teams/companies who have spent time and money developing these new engines for the new Formula.

F1 » F1: Hamilton wins Sports Personality of the Year

Taipan: F1 drivers have had surprising success in this competition over the years, only 3 sportsmen have won it twice Mansell and Dhill are two of them, maybe if Lulu gets another massively dominant car next year he can match them as a two time winner.. Mansell, Dhill and Lulu, I'm trying to think what they have in common.... Oh I remember they were a long way short of the best drivers of their generation and didn't have much personality!
It might be one you don't like but I don't think anyone can say he doesn't have a personality. Congratulations to him, anyway. McIlroy is shuffling off to represent Ireland instead of GB from what I've heard anyway, and he won PotY for NI.

F1 » F1: Palmer angry at lack of weight to GP2 title

Buzz45: The drives should be picked on merit, it's about time the costs were seriously reduced to run an F1 team. I think the fans are getting really fed up with the farcical situation that F1 is in. Apart from what Jolyon has said, look at the McLaren fiasco. It's not doing any good at all for F1s image it's very.sad!
Agree. Sick of seeing Maxie's running around on gold fuel instead of real talent.

F1 » F1: Vettel bids farewell to Red Bull

BtwnDitches: Oh, I understood the sponsor tie-in and symbolism, but couldn't help but wonder what one might do with such a gift. IF your wife let you bring it home and into the house, then you'd have to be very careful where you put it because this isn't something you'd want to run into in the dark on the way to the kitchen for a drink, at least not head-on!
With the house he probably has he can most likely give it its own room.

F1 » F1: Rosberg vows to be 'on the offensive'

richard: contd. this is a rather dictatorial attitude for merc to take, they should be more anxious to actually have competition. in 2016, their veto can be dropped, and if merc dont be more magnanimous then we could well see ferrari and rbr force changes which COULD involve new engines, even a reversal to na engines. it is not whinging by anybody, but is a request from the other teams to enable us, the fans, to see proper racing again. if you want to see merc or anyone else dominate, then you should be watching a one make series.,
What about the previous 3 years where Vettel and the Red Bull zoomed off in to the distance then? You honestly think Red Bull or any other team would act any differently? Don't forget RB have repeatedly been found with illegal parts on their car, hardly playing fair for all is it?
