richard: Bottas was told that he could pass flip, but was to keep it clean. the trouble was that he just did not have the speed, even with drs, to pass flip. and as they were fighting for position, there was no reason for flip to let him past. in fact, bottas should have concentrated in slowing down lulu, and allowed flip to build a cushion and thus prevent the undercut
I was thinking the same thing! Whether or not Williams did tell him that and it wasn't broadcasted who knows. But Bottas should have slowed down Hamilton and both Mercs for that matter. Even if he caused a Merc driver to make a mistake trying an overtake, or locking brakes or something. Even though he was initially told to not overtake, seeing your teamate that close behind you would still have caused distraction for Massa.

LoveF1: I don't know whether it is always easy for a driver to think in the same calm logical fashion that us fans are able to do while sitting in our chairs at home (when he is doing 200mph and trying to drive the car like he stole it). We all have the benefit of hindsight at home...not while doing such high speeds...I'm just saying.....
That is true, but the drivers still spend hours briefing with the team before the race. That tactic can be quite common in F1 and it's not the hardest strategy to follow. In a perfect world Williams would have had a 1-2 finish with the simply perfect start. Once again though, the Mercs were just to quick. Not that Massa and Bottas were slow, just the pace of the Mercs is ridiculous.

why? pole is ahead and gives you a shallower angle (and faster) into the first corner, provided you make a good start. but if the second place driver makes a better start, then you suffer....and that is justice.
When first turns are like they are in Austria, 2nd place could still be behind at the start, launch one down the inside which the outside driver (1st place) then has to leave room for, and then 2nd place is away in the lead. Most drivers would prefer to have the inside line for this first corner if they were planning an overtake.

SoSlo: Low comment count on crash F1 page. Nobody even cares to argue about F1 anymore, even on crash... now you know F1 is dead for real.
I remember back in the day after a race, the comments here would explode with general thoughts on the race, people talking about who Grosjean crashed into, people arguing about Hamilton, people talking about stuff that happened. But now, well nobody even argues about Hamilton because there is nothing to argue about. And even when Vettel won 9 races in a row in 2013, there was still competition and good racing through the field for solid points finishes. I mean there were some highlights from Austria, and I'm always the first perosn to defend F1 if someone says its "boring". But even I'm getting annoyed. Only 14 cars finished, the whole field was devided massivly on track, and two world champions couldn't even drive a Mclaren competitively. I don't care if Mercedes 1-2 every bloody race this season, I just want to see more

I still think Webber was the unluckiest driver in F1, but let me tell you Alonso is a very, VERY close second. I couldn't being to imagine how he must feel, going between teams and coming so close on multiple occasions to winning his 3rd world championship, only to end up fighting over 15/16th place. I really do hope luck turns around for McLaren Honda. For Buttons' sake also.
