MotoGP » MotoGP Japan - Race Results

Brilliant ride from Lorenzo, well supported by Rossi. I expected a Honda 1-2, and the Yamahas showed that they have really closed the gap to the Hondas. The Yams only had a few millilitres of fuel left when they crossed the line, but they ran hard to the finish, and they've come a long way to overcome the fuel problems they had last year. Congrats to Marquez, he deserves the championship, and did everything he had to today.

MotoGP » Rossi: Marquez improved, but 2013 more impressive

Rossi: “Unfortunately for us he was able to improve - not a lot about the speed, but about the riding style, the way to use the bike, the way to brake, the way to accelerate and especially compared to last year he remained a very aggressive but now it looks like the situation is more under control for him. Last year sometimes he risked too much, you know.” Absolutely agree.

MotoGP » Marc Marquez is 2014 champion, Lorenzo wins Motegi

Congrats to Marquez on locking in the championship. He had a go at chasing down Lorenzo, but realised that he didn't need to, and diodn't want to make another silly mistake. I don't know what happened to Pedrosa, but he really looked to be struggling for much of the race. Great result for both factory Yamahas. Props to them both - I didn't expect them to be so competitive here. I don't understand how people find brilliant precision riding boring. Three slightly different styles at the front, and really fine margins between them, managing tyres, fuel and their race lines. What's not to like? Fairing bashing is fine, but gets silly on a track like Motegi, usually ending in carnage. Roll on to the dead rubbers...

MotoGP » Dovizioso savours ‘special’ Ducati pole

RSMick: ...
Vilas46: RSMick...
Truefan: ... changes during the season...
Its the other way round if you enter under Factory 2 as Aprilia will do, means you can develop your bike as you race, no better way. You missed an important part ...
I struggle to see the point of prototype racing if you can't make any changes to the prototype...especially if you're a new entrant, or behind the performance curve. The engine restrictions were introduced to supposedly make it cheaper to compete...what utter BS! This rule simply locks in the status quo, and preserves any pre-existing performance advantages or deficits.

MotoGP » Marquez unsure of Motegi title coup

TrueFan: ..and for my money, he's earned it by his riding - especially his braking and corner entry, which doesn't benefit from electronics.
Actually, a recent crash interview with a data guy says otherwise, and that engine braking strategies gain far more lap time than TC actually does. You really think that MM doesnt have the very very best tech staff and also the very very best, most effective engine braking strategies? Sorry Truefan, but while MM is a talented GP racer for sure.... its a total fallacy to think that his skills dont have the very best "help" as well with that braking and corner entry ability.
Engine braking strategies account for nought when your rear wheel is airborne...which in Marquez's case is entering most corners...and yes, he has a very well supported bike - on that I agree.

MotoGP » Dovizioso takes Ducati's first pole since 2010

RSMick: My question is, Where do people get that Honda spends a colossal budget and the rules are in their favour? Truefan, I'm sure your aware that the advantage of the soft tyres in the practice is worn away by the disadvantage of not being able to use the hard at some of the tracks in the race, and do Ducati want to win a race until the last one of the season?
Mick, I'm well aware. And that's just as annoying! I want to see Ducati develop the bike. I don't know whether the performance is due to running rich, running soft tyres, whatever. I'd like to see them make changes to improve the bike, with all other variables equal...
