F1 » Alonso: It can only get better

As LaughingGas says it would be very hard to put on a much worse performance than McLaren have this season. Considering their relative position in the pecking order and the amount of money available it will almost certainly go down as one of the biggest shambles ever in F1. Of course they have been on the decline for a long time and have not won a constructors championship since the 90's. Given the amount of time that it took Williams to get back to the top I doubt that Mclaren will be doing any winning anytime soon, maybe in 2017/18 but history and Ross Brawn says it takes five years. Just hope Alonso is still there to get a shot at his third championship as I doubt there will be a queue outside the Mclaren headquarters wanting to replace him and Button will be long gone by then.

F1 » Button living in moment, not thinking about 2016

I rather suspect Button knows exactly where he is going, he's not going to wait about and be kicked out by RD for some concocted reason, McLaren are short of money so it's an obvious saving to bring in Magnussen or Vandoorne baring in mind they they have to pay Alonso a shed load of money regardless. Williams would be a fitting final for Button as Massa is still quick enough to be a threat and a good test of Button's pace.

F1 » Alonso lauds ‘beautifully balanced’ McLaren

They are on their own admission some 120bhp down on Mercedes, that being the case however well balanced the car might be you are only going near the back. Until Honda can produce some more power (and they are not even talking about 120bhp) they will be miles of the pace. I suspect next season will produce a virtually new engine and hopefully at least 120bhp more.

F1 » 'Gutted' Rosberg left deflated by missed opportunity

Felt a bit sorry for Rosberg, Ricciardo was driving a bit desperately and was the cause of both the collisions he had, also I suspect that had Rosberg been able to catch Vettel he would have done. He was not happy with his car in practice and qualifying so perhaps he just didn't have the speed, either way he missed out on some good points. Good to see a bit of excitment rather than the usual Mercedes procession.

F1 » Alonso laments ‘fragile’ McLaren as Q3 wait continues

So much for the improved reliability and they are still 2 seconds off the pole. This is really not going anywhere unlike Button who has obviously had enough. The car is not fast enough to get in Q3, Force India and others are improving their cars and have a Mercedes engine so they have a power advantage anyway. They are between a rock and a hard place, poor reliability, yet more power will bring more reliability problems as they simply don't have the running time to test. My best guess is that Honda will turn up next season with a completely new engine which will hopefully prove somewhat better.

F1 » Button: Slowly, but surely…

I doubt that any improvements in his McLaren will come soon enough to benefit Button. With McLaren short of money and paying Alonso a fortune Button is the obvious casualty. Magnussen will come at a fraction of Button's salary and RD has disliked Button since the start of his career. Unfortunately nowhere in F1 for Button to go unless he is prepared to trail round at the back. Very sad and very indicative of what is wrong with F1.

F1 » Boullier: McLaren has seconds of potential to unlock

More Boullier bullshit, so Mclaren are suddenly going to go 2 or 3 seconds faster and blow Mercedes into the weeds, are they? I don't believe we will see any of this potential until later in 2016/17, everything they try at the moment breaks the car so I can't see much progress until they have sorted everything, the problem will be the more power, the more problems, they will be forever chasing their tails, also there are problems with the chassis that have gone largely unnoticed because of the power-plant problems.
