F1 » Drivers play down desire for ‘risky’ F1

What we actually want to see is something called "racing" as I understand the word it means to go as fast as possible for the entire race and compete with other competitors. It also means that there is a built in amount of risk if you are trying to get past another competitor. I don't think we expect drivers to take more or unnecessary risks but we would like to see more powerful cars and cars that presented a challenge to drive, not as now where a 17 year old can step in and be instantly competitive. We don't want to see processions where drivers are too busy watching their fuel consumption or looking after their tyre's or twiddling knobs for some reason. It's not a lot to ask for Christ's sake but it seems to be totally beyond the current rule makers. I've watched F1 since about 1960 and have seen some truly amazing racing during that time. Perhaps we need to take a step back to the past rather than making F1 ever more complicated and less interesting to watch.

F1 » Vandoorne ‘ready for F1, but too early to decide future’

theoldgitspeaks: The truth is starting to come out, I spoke of chassis problems on Crash but everybody poo pooed it, well now you have heard it from a man who has done some of the testing. With rumors of Button being dropped he might just leapfrog Magnussen to jump into this poisoned chalice
Why drop Button? You could drop any of the top 4 drivers into that car and it wouldn't make any difference as the car does barely runs for a single lap and when penalties are applies for the remainder of the year your almost last anyway. He's hardly been embarrassed by Alonso. I guess Ron has never got over him getting the seat instead of Kevin. I guess you know though that Ron is pretty looney these days.
Indeed! why drop Button, there has been suggestions that he might be dropped to help Honda save face and as a fall guy. Don't ask me to explain the logic it's well beyond be.

F1 » Todt willing to take control of F1 regulation changes

It doesn't matter what the teams think, what matter's is that the people who pay shed loads of money to watch get something that is worth watching. Until that happens the decline will continue and escalate until there are no crowds and only the top four teams with their huge budgets running round in line astern. Todt hasn't a clue, he was excellent at Ferrari but appears to be in the pocket of the top four, that and Bernie's excessive greed will kill the goose that has laid the golden egg. Richard Branson said that Formula E will be bigger than F1 and while I rather doubt that there is clearly room for it to be become very successful baring in mind the low cost and an impressive driver line-up and accessible circuits. Also Sports car racing is becoming more and more popular and the organisers seem to have their heads screwed on straight. Time is running out but i doubt there will be any sensible answers coming from the present rule makers.

F1 » London could still host F1, insists mayor

It will never happen, Boris is just talking it up like he talks everything up and he will not be there for much longer so the likelihood of his successor backing it is non existent as a Labour mayor would be much more interested in financing a huge Gay Pride rally or an illegal immigrant tea party than organizing a GP and the Tories will never buy it because of the huge cost of setting it up. Also F1 is in a steep decline and until that can be resolved and some of the old circuits can be brought back into use things will stay much the same.

F1 » McLaren noses towards development and reliability

We have heard this all before, I sincerely hope something comes of this because a lot of people think this team is going nowhere, a lot of talk, a lot of tinkering about and Oh sorry we can't start the race because something has broken. There is only so much of this that most people will accept before the team loses all credance of being a professional unit. I hope it happens but I really don't expect much this season. It is much more likely that a total redesign over the winter to properly cure all the problems will be the way things go

F1 » Honda not ready to supply second F1 team

I don't think that any team is seriously contemplating using Honda power-plants. Why would anybody want the least powerful most unreliable unit on the grid? As Sasha A says they will never catch because they can't get any testing and their unreliability means they will incur more and more penalties. In addition Mclaren have seen fit to do a major upgrade on the car when both drivers had commented that the car was good to drive, it rather suggests someone has been telling porkies and attempting to cover up the fact that McLaren have produced another dud chassis. I'm not a betting man but if I was I would put good money on this venture being wound up sooner rather then later, Honda walked away before when they did not become competitive saying it was too expensive to continue and I rather thing this latest venture is costing far more money with even less likelihood of success. Alonso and Button must be at wit's end.

F1 » Button woeful weekend over in just two laps

theoldgitspeaks: £6M for the number of laps he has completed this season, I would say that was pretty good pay!
Pay is one thing but tbh it's not like he needs the money. At this point in his career surely it's all about being in a competitive car and fighting for podiums or even top ten finishes. Shame of it is there doesn't seem to be much light at the end of the tunnel. For McLaren they must be thinking 'what have we done!!'. Honda were awesome in 80's F1 but have dropped the ball big time here and arn't really making any progress at all. Same could also be said of Renault, although they've also had more recent success. These regs have just strangled the championship when they were supposed to open it up. What a mess it all is. The races this year are almost 'whoever gets to the first conner first wins'...Lets' just hope the 2017 regs open things up a bit and make it more fun for all...although I suspect Jenson might have left F1 by
