F1 » Boullier coy on driver futures

I agree with Nick101, Mclaren would be making a mistake to get rid of Button but I have reason to believe that that is the case. RD has never thought much of him describing him as a "Playboy" at one stage. If and it's a very big if they were keeping him would it not be sensible to resign him immediately? Problem is RD has other irons in the fire, he wants Alonso/Vettel/Hamilton in no particular order and is believed to be in negotiation with at least one of them regardless of their contractual positions. Presumably Honda are also putting pressure on for a top three driver despite Buttons connections with Honda and Japan. A top sponsor is waiting in the wings and that is tied to getting one of these drivers, in other words they will pay the huge bill to buy out whoever. This of course might not happen but Mclaren and RD have a history of getting what they want, if not my bets still on Grosjean (out of a drive if Lotus go) and Hulkenburg who needs to be at a top team regardless of Force

F1 » Boullier coy on driver futures

Seems pretty clear that Button is on the way out but not clear which top driver they may be targetting. Alonso and even Vettel have been mentioned but all are under contract. Magnussen looks a good bet but whether that is enough is doubtful. Personally I think Grosjean and Hulkenburg are the most likely candidates with Magnussen as third driver. I guess Button will be forced to retire because there are no suitable seats available especially as a number of teams are unlikely to be around next season.

F1 » Boullier: Works engine now crucial in F1

Unfortunate but true, mind you, you need to have a good car and that is beyond Mclaren at the moment whatever they say. Next season will be a learning curve for Honda so I don't expect things to get much better especially as next years car will have largely been designed by the current staff. Hopefully come 2016 Peter Promodu and co will have a handle on the aero and chassis and Honda will be up to speed with the engine. Just sorry for Button that he won't be there to enjoy it.

F1 » Dennis: McLaren won’t write off 2014

With virtually half the season gone it will be inevertible that Mclaren will begin to concentrate on next years car. They are not going anywhere this season, remaining in a long and static self induced mediocre patch that they seem incapable of escaping from. I believe Button will fall victim to a cull at the end of the season which would be very unfair as he did'nt design the car although his imput has had little effect in the way of performance. They will need to up their game next season with talk of Red Bull obtaining the Honda Engine. I f things continue as they are we may see Honda begin to transfer their allegiances elseware.

F1 » Horner slams Renault failings

He shoud'nt complain too much, they have just walked off with four consecutive championships against strong if inconsistent opposition. As I understand it the rules the engines can't be changed so it's a bit unclear how Renault are going to improve. Would make sense to allow continued engine development and cut back on the horrendously expensive continuous aero development, nothings that simple though and the haves will continue to dominate F1 until it collapses under it's own misguided rules and regulations.

F1 » Boullier keen to build momentum

There is clearly a big damage limitation excercise going on in the Mclaren camp with RD, Boullier and Button and Magnussen saying how pleased they are with their progress. I maybe in a small minority but I don't see any real signs of improvement, 7th and 11th in Canada is about where they have been since their promising start to the season, as things stand Williams will soon push them down to 7th in the standings. My guess is that that is where they will end up they simply don't have the right people to make the sort of difference that is required. Considering they have the best power package their performance is simply third rate.

F1 » Button: Atmosphere different at McLaren

The atmosphere may have changed but the results have'nt, Mclaren are trailing along behind Force India and with others breathing down their neck. I can't really see any great improvement this season or next really until they have the new staff in place and actually having imput. It is very clear that the current Mclaren setup is not capable of delevering race winning performance, not sure how this has been allowed to come about, I was always of the impression that RD was always looking over their shoulders even when he was'nt in charge. Clearly Whitmarsh had a very negative effect, probably far too nice to say what needed saying, Let's all hope that this will change for Buttons sake, he's good enough to win with the right car and I hope that comes around although I think RD has other ideas.

F1 » Magnussen: P7 the maximum for McLaren here

Yet another poor performance from Mclaren, the updates are'nt working and they are slipping down the field like last year. It seems virtually everybody else is able to do a better job with less money and resources. Questions need to be asked but I think the situation is so bad that they prefer to plow on as if some sort of miracle will help them become competitive also Button did himself no favours with an completely anonymous performance, I imagine that despite his talk he is completely pissed off with this so called super team and is coming to realise that he will have to move on if he wants a competititive car, It seems likely anyway that RD is planning something for next season to try and placate Honda who must be wondering if they have made a huge mistake. Also with talk of Red Bull having a new engine maybe they have had talks with Honda as it would make far better sense to go with Red Bull. Maybe unlikely but stranger things have happened in F1.
