F1 » McLaren could test Honda engine this year

Unless Mclaren can produce a competitive car this partnership is doomed to failure. I'm surprised that Honda chose Mclaren purely on the basis of their former success together when it would have made far more sense to go with Red Bull who have won the championship for the last four years, I don't know if that was ever considered or even discussed but it would have made for a really exciting partnership. Mclaren are not the same team who won in the past but a team who do a lot of talking but fail to deliver on the basics, I'm not sure that there is any instant solution to their continuing slide down the rankings, with talk of Alonso going to Mercedes and Button leaving at the end of the season it is difficult to see which if any top driver would drive for them next season, maybe they will have to hang on to Button who I believe is part of their problem. As Williams have found out long declines are very difficult to reverse and Mclaren have not won the constructors championship since I t

F1 » Button: Two experienced drivers would be best

They had two experienced drivers if you can call Perez that, it did'nt make a jot of difference and it would'nt this year. Button is fairly unique, he likes his car a certain way and without he is lost, Magnussen will just have to muck along and learn as fast as he can with an inadequate car. Hopefully next season with Alonso or another driver on board they can make progress but it all depends on the car.

F1 » Boullier: Spain ‘a fresh push’ for McLaren

The fact that Mclaren are already into a sort of damage limitation mode says a great deal about thinking at Mclaren. That can't for whatever reason design a car from scratch that is competitive. They then spend the rest of the season playing catch up with upgrades that only seem to make the car worse, they then say they are trying to understand the car better and spend the remainder of the season using a strategy designed to enable them to cobble together a few points. For one thing I would have thought that if you had designed the car you would at least have some idea of how it worked, they must be in a very dark place indeed for this to have repeated it'self again this season, perhaps new thought and new brains are needed?

F1 » Button dismisses promising practice pace

It will be a case of plugging away and using different tactics for Mclaren to have any hope of a decent points finish. I feel desperately sorry for both drivers but it already looks as if they are destined for another season of uncompetitiveness. Basic problem is that they cannot design a competitive car and then cannot get it competitive as the season moves on and everybody else moves ahead. One wonders what will happen when Honda comes on board, I can see that being a very short relationship unless Mclaren can pull themselves out of the pit they have dug for themselves. If Ross Brawn joins he going to have the toughest job of his long career.

F1 » Button: Two experienced drivers would be best

I think everybody knows what I mean LeftyS7 but I accept that gramatically it was not correct. Button just likes his car set up rather differently from most drivers and seems unable to drive round any problems which Alonso for one would do. As for Alonso going to Mclaren, Button is out of contract at the end of this season and RD wants to replace him with a top three driver to go with the Honda engine and their new mainline sponsor, if it's not Alonso not sure who else thay could get their hands on. I also believe that Ross Brawn will be announced in a senior roll at the time of the new sponsorship deal. RD does'nt do things by halfs.

F1 » Button: McLaren must unlock car’s secrets

Thet spent last season trying to do that and now we have a repeat performance. I would have thought the designers should know what they are doing but Mclaren's don't apparently. My guess is that this season will end much like the last with Mclaren propping up the lower middle of the grid. Simply not good enough for a former leading team, RD must be sharpening his full set of knifes with relish.

F1 » Wolff calls for ‘relentless’ Mercedes

He's in charge so it's up to him to ensure that Mercedes maintain their advantage. Personally I believe that when Renault get up to speed we can expect Red Bull to run them very close. Hopefully we when then find out if Hamilton is as good as he thinks he is. It stands at 4/1 now so he's a way to go to match Vettel. I don't see anybody else matching Mercedes and Red Bull, Williams/Force India will drop away as the season progresses and Ferrari and Mclaren are unlikely to make inroads into Mercedes advantage, in short Red Bull are the only team capable of matching Mercedes and I hope that happens because at least we will have a competition rather then the usual procession.

Sportscars » Porsche boss ‘proud’ of LMP1 comeback

The current cars are ugly beyond belief, I can't imagine in thirty years time any collector saying I must have one of those it's so beautiful. Hopefully more manufacturers will come in as well so that we have a true World championshipand it would be good if private teams could buy and run these cars like they did with the 917/956/62 it would help boost the grids like we had in the Group C days, however the cost and complexity of these cars may well be beyond most private entrants. I really hope sports car racing gets it's act together because i've always preferred it to F1.
