MotoGP » Rossi: Bridgestone exit ‘bad news’ for MotoGP

ProfessorX:except for one sticking point, there was more than one supplier, meaning more than one team or rider had a shot at the championship like it has NOT been since 2009.
There were only one or two seasons, 2007 and maybe 2008, where both Bridgestone and Michelin were competitive. But Michelin were only competitive in those years through the overnights and having already sewn up contracts with the teams were considered to be the best at the time, ie Yamaha and Honda. Also there was a problem with riders being contractually bound to one tire make or another. Only when Pedrosa then Rossi spat the dummy were the riders able to choose between manufacturers. And they all chose Bridgestone because it was patently the best tire at the time.
