F1 » Coulthard: Ferrari fight will be fascinating

Add to all of the above, the fact that he is no slouch when he needs to push! And he is just as good as Kimi with technical input/feedback, if not better. He also works in harmony with Andrea Stella, when they strategise or need to look after the tyres. He will also head into the gym and into winter training early, because he will not want to be shown up by this new pretender to his throne at Ferrari - though Kimi can always have bragging rights as having won a title for Ferrari :-) Soo many permutations....so much to watch out for.. It will be interesting.

......Kimi has the occasional lack-lustre race, whereas Alonso pushes with intent like this every race and brings home maximum points relative to his inferior machinery. And that is how he may shade it by the end of the season. But not by much. We will see...and like Coulthard said, it will be fascinating. That is my theory anyway - and I hope it has not come across as a fanboy post, because it is not at all meant to be. And I wasn't trying to preach either, because I know that many here will also have seen exactly what I am trying to say here :-)

continued .....coming into the pits and not "fight him for position" at that moment. Also, Alonso drives to keep the car on the road, even in the wet, no matter how wet it gets. He drives to bring the car home for the maximum points that he can. He is a thinking driver with a clear head on a Sunday - and that can make him appear "slow" on TV, when he makes that extra effort of not throwing the car into the wall in the wet or not going at maximum speed in changeable conditions. F1 is not always about driving the car at 200mph for every lap of every race of the season. He realises that this approach is his only chance of overcoming Vettel in this inferior cars that he has had. I'm not saying that he is the fastest F1 driver out there, but there is no doubt that he is a wily old fox with an old head on his shoulders. To address Taipan's thoughts before, I think Kimi may regularly out-qualify him or even beat him in many races, but like you said, Kimi has the off lack-lustre race, whereas

I have been thinking about this and I think I understand why Coulthard used the word "fascinating" when he described the coming championship battles between Fernando and Kimi. Kimi is the naturally faster driver, who may easily out-qualify Fernando on Saturdays, but Fernando is one wily old fox of a driver on a Sunday! For those who have been saying that Kimi will just show up at Ferrari and blow Alonso away because Alonso "has always needed Massa's help", you have to remember something. Over the years, since Alonso arrived at Ferrari, with the high pressure and expectation that goes with driving for the Scuderia, I have noticed that he has a "careful" approach to his driving, as opposed to a "carefree" one that is possible for another driver without the same level of expectation of going for the championship each year! That is why some like Maldonado or others can just go for broke at every corner of every race, but Alonso will jump out of his way if he is coming into the pits and no
