F1 » Ricciardo excluded from Australian GP

I imagine RBR decided to gamble on a technical/legal argument after the race rather than drop positions on track. With lower fuel flow = less power, Magnussen and possibly Button would have surely passed Ricciardo in the last stint. A poor decision as it turns out, but if it took over 5 hours to decide the issue there must have been some merits to RBR's argument, although from any realistic viewpoint they never had a chance.

F1 » Vettel bullish on title chances

ProfessorX - Renault couldn't get a reliable alternator on their V8 right up until end of 2013. Now they have to deliver the MGU-H which is basically a massive alternator running at 120000 rpm, as well as being a motor to spin up the turbo and reduce lag when coming back on throttle. I would not be surprised if their detonation problems are related to this unit and its control software. But Vettel is right to have some confidence for the WDC, remember 2012 when aero, tyre and alternator issues held him back for more than half the season, only for him to storm home in the last 7 races once RBR got their act together.

F1 » Ricciardo not intimidated by Vettel

Once again we see people here who don't understand the job of the modern F1 driver - media duties, PR, call it what you like, a huge part of the role. Dan is just doing his job giving his honest replies to journo's questions, with the spotlight on him in his home GP. Seems a truly nice guy, we'll see soon enough how he measures up in the RB10 against Seb and the rest of the Renault backmarkers.

F1 » Coulthard: F1 needs to remain 'a little bit James Bond'

Unfortunately this year the power units are reverting to stereotypes: Merc - reliable but boring economy run to the podium. Not the right style for James. Ferrari - quick but use too much fuel, might break down. But Kimi is carrying number (00)7 Renault - smoke & fire, bits of engine everywhere, and that's just in the garage. If James Bond likes filling in warranty claims this is the place to be.

F1 » ‘We’re not losing points’ – Ricciardo

Gotta feel sorry for Dan, last man standing in front of the media when everyone else has cut and run. Newey's slaving over his drawing board (but dreaming of white sails in the sunset). Horner's polishing his resume and asking Boullier for tips on career development. Vettels home making goo-goo noises, and even Mateshitz must be sitting in his office ruing his decision to put all his advertising eggs in the one dodgy French basket (or basket case).
