F1 » Irvine: Hamilton went 'too showbiz'

Sea - thanks for that - I did not have the heart to point out he had a team mate using the same car with far more F1 experience because that's a n argument only allowed when discussing SV. Thing is that links to the post because EI good as he was, frankly would not have got near his record unless a certain Shumi had not pulled together the best team in F1 history beforehand (well that may change but you know what I mean..) But the leg etc - on the other hand Shumi came back and showed the difference just like other injured number 1 players...

Sea - yep your right - sorry to drag this out but I get a little annoyed when talent is destroyed by topical and current fashion... Anyway - the guiding light to current and past success is Newey and perhaps we should stop commenting on those he enabled and praise the achievements of those he has not rather than comment on lifestyle girlfriends, language.. Taipin - your thoughts?

Tiepin - shock horror you have been reduced to childish comments.., Please just for clarity - take a look at a history you clearly in all your F1 knowledge have missed out on and reconsider your comments. You do not have to agree with me but to consider NM anything less than a racer who disregarded much physical pain just to line up on the grid (and actually become the most UK F1 race winner in history let alone other records) Well sorry but now your getting silly...

And just for clarity Richard - Nigel won just nine races in the car you refer to.. And if you think going from racing a superior to inferior car is some sort of advantage, you really need to think again. Otherwise there would be far more races won by those in such... Why not look up all the others and just how close he was at actually beating SV before he was born Clearly you have not raced but that's not a criticism - what I can tell you having done much is that it apart from the first few, my goodness, this is rubbish, you can only do as much as your talent and luck lets you. And really - if you think SV car is a micro second in front you are doing its designer a disservice - do you you hand on heart think he is making up seconds? You need to really consider the technology today compared to that of years ago and then think why they need to double points, mess with tyres, pit stops, DRS, Kers and everything else before thinking he is so amazingly quick the spectacle does not requir

Richard - oh really get real... Look again at what was achieved and think again - he was in serious physical problems that over here would have banned him from racing... Plus bar a pit error would have got the Indy too - and raced that with 200 stitches in his back? Fact is we forget the efforts those who went before put in and without consideration are happy to compare. Regardless of tie pins comments, I was lucky enough to see the great JC race at brands and regardless of this childish drivel, really do accept he was something else... Given most F1 racers agree I can live with being in some sort of Forum hinterland..

Oh by the way folks - look at Nigel's listing in the all time greats - even with a year with Judd engines... If nothing else he is the fourth best ever and the only double American winner at the same time. Oh and the ONLY racer Senna accepted could beat him, that scared him and won chicken with him... But, obviously what do points and records mean when we are discussing on forums..? And for those without the knowledge - he won several races in America after a 200mph crash that separated his back muscles from his spine and raced at different times previously with a broken neck, damaged limbs and various other physical issues. Your heroes of today would keel over. The only person even near such is Lauda and without doubt they were of the same mould.

Sea by the way - absolutely agree with you on this... Plus they all seem to forget a chap who's name began with a V who just happened to be a cart champ when he came over as a young man, climbed in a non technical Willliams and nearly won it first time round and made Shumi say the second year that he was only afraid of said driver. Oh and he won that year not letting Shumi get his way by trying to take him out. In essence he presented Shumi with an area of the car that he would only bounce off of to his doom rather than something he could bust... Just a shame he got tied up in the BAT/Honda farce of the time frankly and failed to move on..

Classic - I drop Nigel Mansel into the mix who just happened to benefit from the very same designer that the current champion benefits from and just as I expected suddenly shock horror, it the car/designer etc and nothing to do with ability that gave him a championship. For those so blinkered - look at his record before the Newey Williams and perhaps most importantly - look at what he did in America after. I did not notice others following suit? The guy was a racer. Boy do we need them... Just love it when the self proclaimed bite... I was awarded a trophy by him and his rather lovely wife in a British Championship end of year and can assure you he is a very different person in real life. Something I very much doubt all the critics here have experienced, yet are happy to comment on. However each to their own. Anyway - Tiepin - it would help F1 if you chose not to develop a band of followers critical of a young chap but actually focused on the issues pushing F1 away from the fans
