MotoGP » Rossi: Marc’s wins the rider, mine the Honda...

Codger: SkyWilk......I do want to go down that route. You can't compare. Rossi's stats are ruined by his 2 year stint on the Ducati, while Lozzer enjoyed 2 years on the sweet handling Yamaha. If it had happened the other way round then it's a whole different story. The 2012 Title would have gone to Rossi. ( I doubt that the 2011 one would. :) ) " He isnt faster or better than JLO, he never was.................." He was in 08 and 09, wasn't he ? So far this year too. ps.....Why did you bring Stoner into it ?
Are you that blind? 2008 they had diferent tires. 2009 Rossi won, far enough. 2010 Lorenzo came back with more experience, and was beating Rossi. Last year, he humilliated Rossi. And i can almost bet that unless something strange happens, he won't finish ahead of JLO again this year. Now let's compare that with what Doohan made to all his teammates. You get the picture? Rossi is slower than JLO, fact. And Stoner? Stoner showed Rossi how to ride the Ducat

R6Ryder: Heads up rossi has the edge. I've looked it up. Rossi won a title at age 30! Let's see how Jorge is doing in 3 years. Looks like he is no longer the fastest at age 26/27? Rossi was already 29 when Jorge showed up. Past the prime in terms of motogp racing
Tell that to Biaggi, Gibernau, Doohan, or a handfull of others who were well over past 30 also then! And MY point still stands! 2 championships vs 1, 31 wins to 17 since lorenzo got to motoGP, and last year to add to the tally. How can Rossi be the "best ever" if he can't beat his own teamate? He got slow with age? Then retire!Enough of excuses.

Harryx: it's rather irrelevant all this until MM moves away from Honda and gets on a Yamaha and Rossi or Lorenzo on the Honda. Also greatness is not only the Championships won, but also the adventures that were undertaken. Sitting at Mama Honda's breast forever isn't that impressing to me. Rossi was the first to leave under conflicting circumstances and won the bet. To be the first to move like that was really difficult.
The first what? Do you remember a guy called Eddie Lawson? Besides, he did the same when he jumped on the Ducati, and failed massively, so your point is? And wait a minute, suddenly Rossi fans are saying that it's no more about the statistics? Predictable!

Codger: Good post Brian. The last sentence is open to debate. Mediocre or not they were the best in the World at the time. It will be sad in more ways than one if in a few years time punters are saying that Marquez had mediocre talent to race against. You've just proved that Rossi is mediocre, ...
I guess the difference is the amount of tittles his adversaries had, vs today. NONE of the men that he beat in those years had a 500cc or motoGP title with the exception of Kenny Junior, who was stuck in the Suzuki. By far the best was Biaggi, who was on a clearly inferior bike during his best and healthy years. Then he had to beat Gibernau, and a Rookie melandri on a satellite bike to his tittles back then?...

cossiegaz:
SkyWilk: Funny how Rossi forgets how he himself said he would win on the Ducati..what happened to that?? Suddenly Biaggi took Rossi's leathers and was complaining it was the bike??...
He wasn't asked how well he did o...
Wow you almost make it sound like the guy was the best for the last 15 years! Nevermind that Lorenzo finnished ahead of him more times than the other way around, that Lorenzo has 2 tittles with the same equipment than Rossi vs 1 (2008 they had diferent tires) and that Rossi never matched what Stoner did just months earlier on that same Ducati! Rossi is just bitter and whinning, in a futile atempt to discredit MM and play mind games, that's all!

Codger: A true comparison of the two Yamaha riders is not possible until Jorge spends 2 years on the 2011 Ducati.
Ohh, are you sure you want to go down that route? Because Stoner showed Rossi "how hard he was riding", didn't he? Besides, who won the most races in the last 6 years? Lorenzo or Rossi? Rossi can't, and could never dominate Lorenzo. He isnt faster or better than JLO, he never was, and that is something a "best ever" can't afford. I don't remember any of Doohan's Teammates getting close to him after he got the hang of it, right up to his retirement!

R6Ryder: Personally I think there was more bikes/riders on the grid capable of winning during Rossi's years on top than there is now. To the guy who said Lorenzo beat rossi more on the same equip? No not really. And your mentioning the tires in 08 as adv rossi? So did stoner have that same adv in07?...
I Only talked about "same equipment" not about what was better or worse. And Stoner sure needed those bridgestones, with that DOG of a bike! Lorenzo beat Rossi fair and square last year, and he was beating him in 2010 too! And as far as i can recall, Gibernau and Biaggi were in their mid thirties too, so were they already in decline?...
