F1 » Lotterer set to replace Kobayashi at Caterham

Really sucked waking up to this. There goes his career and all the potential it had. F*ck you Kolles, why'd you have to get involved in F1 again? I hope he lands an Indy drive for next year. As has been said, Lotterer has a decent CV and he could even be WDC material. But Kolles has destroyed a career because of his friendship with another driver. And... What happened to all those drivers in their development programme? I mean they could've at least given Frijns a chance, as he looks like a better prospect and wasn't Sainz Jr. also in talks with the team? Where did this guy come from?

F1 » Lotterer confirmed at Caterham

richard: ryanshek. so lotterer has never raced an f1 car? thats funny, as every other driver who enters f1 for the first time has never raced an f1 car! everybody starts somewhere, and lotterer has proven to be a capable driver in cars every bit as powerful as an f1 car!.
That's not the funny part. The funny part is how they threw out an experienced and decent driver for someone who has no experience in F1. Granted all drivers start somewhere, but it doesn't make sense to throw in a rookie into the better driver's seat midseason. It's also evident that he has had a very impressive career in Le Mans, but will he put a Caterham with a Renault engine into the points on his first race on a power-based track? Very, very unlikely. Not saying Kobayashi would've done it either, but if I'm not mistaken, the team want to get ahead of Marussia... And they just threw out their best bet.

F1 » Verstappen gets 2015 Toro Rosso drive

Jesus Christ that's a surprise. Nice to see a Verstappen back in F1 but... Isn't he a little too young? I mean the kid's still in F3! Not even GP2/GP3. I hope I don't see 12 year olds in F1 cars soon. I feel sorry for Vergne, he was running in second in Hungary but Max has a very interesting CV. Personally would've preferred to see Jann Mardenborough in that Toro Rosso.

F1 » Verstappen gets 2015 Toro Rosso drive

Smile35: I get he is highly rated but this is ridiculous. What is the point of GP2 then? The 2012 and 2013 winners and runners up haven't got F1 drives. So much for a feeder series. F1 seats don't seem to be allocated by talent any more just who you know and who comes with the most money. I feel for those other guys. This is a gamble for Max to because you typically only get one shot, once your out of F1 you rarely come back.
I completely agree. It's unfortunate how they compete for the title hoping for a drive in F1 only to end up in Endurance. It looks highly likely that this trend will continue and that none of the talents will be picked this year either, despite the fact that Joylon Palmer may be in talks with teams, I doubt it will be anywhere near the midfield.

F1 » di Resta 'positive' he will get another chance

For obvious reasons, I can't see him back at Force India even if he manages a return as most teams from the top to midfield already have very good driver pairings. He's a good driver and I can't help but feel that if he had kept his mouth shut and proven himself on the track instead, it would be him instead of Perez in that Force India. Sauber seems like the best option for him (assuming he makes a comeback) as the other backmarkers are just too slow for him to compete with. However, it looks like there'll be more torrid years to come for them because they're down on power and on finances, so it doesn't look likely unless he brings some sponsorship money to the table. Realistically, it looks like the F1 ship has sailed and he should just focus on DTM. Maybe, just maybe, he can land an Indy drive sometime in the future because of his family connections. But a competitive F1 seat is out of the question, just ask Kobayashi.
