F1 » Perez ends first day of final test on top

Taipan: Many people and I guess including Ferrari personnel believe that Alonso is slightly better than Kimi (look at the predictions given by F1 journos/drivers/others and also check the odds in favor of Alonso on betting websites). Given that, if they have to maximize their options to win both trophies, they have to follow a subtle #2-#1 policy. It will look to the outside world as "equal" treatment, but it is not. Of course you conveying news to me is as good as I conveying my news to you.

Taipan: So Ferrari spend millions signing Kimi then sabotage his car so that he can't beat Alonso? Wouldn't it have made more sense just to keep Massa if that were the case? In fact why not just sign Maxie and make some money out of the deal?
The keyword I intentionally used is "slightly ahead": the names you mentioned need no intervention at all as they are not threatening, but at the same time they don't bring much WCC points as Kim can. So WCC target along with the right person in WDC hunt is what they want. Anyway, sabotage was not what I was referring to. You could always give new parts for testing to someone that are more likely to fail while the other person can get the tested parts that are stable. So it is not sabotage per se.

Firestorm: As for Ferrari, it seems that most of the problems happens to Raikkonen. Alonso did much more laps at the first two tests, so I expect the trend to continue and tomorrow Alonso may complete a race simulation.
It appears that we may see a Webber-version of gremlins with Raikkonen this year, just to make sure someone else is slightly ahead.

F1 » F1 Driver of the Year vote: Full results

Googolplex: Vettel equals Ascari's 60 year record of most consecutive F1 wins, equals Schumacher's record of the most wins in a single season, breaks the record for the most consecutive wins within a season (Ascari's was over two seasons), and wins the WDC by an obscene margin, yet he is not adjudged by Crash readers to be the best driver of the year. What a joke!
Perhaps many think it is the car, which is not a totally unfounded premise.

Interesting. It was close. If Kimi had a short wheel-base car for the whole season, he would have done just as good as Grosjean during the mid-season and later. Then he would be a worthy first. Now it is debatable. I do see that Seb had a very good car with Pirelli's help from mid-season: before the tires change, Seb, Kimi and Ferdy were separated by very few points. In all the polls from 2008, the WDC winner was never the people's choice. Weird.

F1 » Vote for your Racer of the Year 2013

Now the omission of Vettel looks more glaring. I am a fan of Kimi, but even I cannot agree that Vettel should have been omitted. Everyone knows it is driver+car that we can evaluate and isolating a driver's and car's contribution towards competitiveness is very subjective and very liable to fail. Oh well, it is anyway voting and all of us have our own opinion.
