WSS: Parkes fastest in final session

The young Briton's best lap from day one sees him come away from Portimao with a 'title favourite' tag.
Broc Parkes brought the first World Supersport test of 2011 to a close with the fastest time of the third day at Portimao, though the session was once more blighted with poor weather conditions.

A brief period at the beginning of the session saw a handful of rides capitalise on an almost dry circuit, Parkes setting a best of 1min 48.893secs, while James Ellison was just a second further adrift.

However, rain shortly afterwards forced the riders back into the pit lane to watch as the circuit returned to its former treacherous state.

A few bikes headed back on track later in the session, including Gino Rea, but it was clear the best times from the session had already occurred, Parkes and Ellison being trailed by Alexander Lundh and Roberto Tamburini.

Bringing the test to a close, nearly every rider set their fastest time on the entirely dry day one, with Sam Lowes emerging from the test as the quickest man overall.

The Briton, embarking on his first full season in World Supersport after a handful of outings in 2009, was just up on the Kawasakis of David Salom and Broc Parkes.

Chaz Davies was fifth on the best Yamaha, though it isn't representative of the impressive pace the ParkinGO team has shown this week.

Rea and Ellison would end the test in sixth and seventh positions respectively.

Ellison was fastest lap after lap during the fast bit of the session and was then headed by Parkes for a couple of laps - he didn't get a chance to respond because it rained again.
