WSS: Davies: Tyre issue was imponderable

Chaz Davies is sure he can be a World Supersport title contender this year despite a puncture ruining the start of his campaign.
Chaz Davies is taking the positives away from his strong turn during the 2011 World Supersport at Phillip Island, despite seeing his hopes of a podium result dashed by an unexpected puncture.

The Briton, together with ParkinGO team-mate Luca Scassa, were amongst the front runners from the off in what proved to be a thrilling Supersport curtain raiser.

However, having gotten himself into a good position to attack with just a handful of laps remaining, Davies suffered a Pirelli puncture on the Yamaha YZF-R6, a problem that would also afflict Fabien Foret and Massimo Roccoli.

Describing it as 'imponderable', while Davies was disappointed at missing out on a possible podium finish, he is confident he has shown himself to be capable of a title challenge in 2011.

“I'm really sorry for my result. I'm sure that if I could finish the race I would have been able to end on the podium. Unfortunately I was victim of an unlucky and imponderable accident. I'm leaving with the awareness to possibly be a protagonist for the left 11 rounds of this season.”

This reads like an English translation of an Italian press release. I'd guess that Chaz has been advised not to speal directly to the press lest he is rather pointed in what he says about the tyre 'situation' he found himself in....
