Can RPM strength carry over into Sunday?

On Friday at Dover International Speedway, all four Richard Petty Motorsports cars qualified in the top ten for Sunday's Autism Speaks 400.

Only Kasey Kahne's #9 had the new Dodge R6 engine under the hood.

"We had a good day (Friday), and it gives us good starting spots," Petty said Saturday afternoon at Dover. "It's the first time we've had them running together - that fast in a while. I think that gives everybody confidence - the drivers, the crews, the sponsors, everybody is really happy. We'll just have to see how we do Sunday."

Petty says the team plans to phase in the new engine for drivers AJ Allmendinger, Reed Sorenson and Elliott Sadler, based on how it performs over the next few weeks in Kahne's car.

"There is a timetable, but it's according to how good this engine is over the other engines - if we don't have any trouble with it and all that," Petty said. "They've got a timetable set up for the next four or five races to run and make sure that we've got a good combination before they turn it loose for everybody else."
