More delays at Indianapolis but weather finally clears as Reed Sorenson strikes first blow for Ganassi.
Following Friday's rain at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the Nextel Cup teams and drivers were thwarted in their efforts to get on track once again on Saturday morning by lingering fog although the skies did clear eventually and allowed everyone to get at least some practice in before Bud Pole qualifying later in the afternoon.
Reed Sorenson and his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate David Stremme wound up taking the top two spots when on-track activity finally got underway with Sorenson setting a best time of 48.887secs to lead the way.
Behind the leading two Dodge's came the Hendrick Chevrolet of Kyle Busch, the DEI Chevrolet of Dale Earnhardt Jr, Elliott Sadler's 2006-spec Evernham Motorsports Dodge and the third Ganassi entry of Juan Montoya.
Dave Blaney was the best placed of the Toyota drivers with eleventh fastest time while David Gilliland was one of only two Fords in the top 30 and led the blue oval brigade in 14th.
With Friday's rain having washed away any rubber left on the 2.5-mile quad oval track conditions were very tricky as JJ Yeley and Robby Gordon found to their costs with separate accidents that ruined their primary cars.
Defending Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Bud Pole winner Jeff Burton was 27th fastest with 2006 race winner Jimmie Johnson only 48th of the 49 teams present this weekend.
