Penske Racing's AJ Allmendinger has been temporarily suspended from NASCAR Sprint Cup competition after allegedly failing a random drugs test.

Well AJ is only going through the monotony of Nascar because he wants to. He started racing as an open wheel driver. He was a Champ Car Atlantic champion and rookie of the year in champ car. He was also 3rd in champ car standings in 2006. Had he stayed the course he could have been in a top Indycar team. Or even in F1 instead of Scott Speed. It was Red Bull that brought him to Nascar with a lucrative deal, when they were looking for american talent to promote their drinks.

But as you saw in the Daytona 24h he still has his road course skills. So he has career options.
