Max Chilton and Giedo van der Garde remain optimistic about returning for F1 2014, despite neither having been confirmed in a seat just yet.

Could be that VDG has got an offer elsewhere... Kovaleinen seemed up-beat about a return recently so maybe he will tip up at a mid-field team? Force India or even Sauber? Could be a bit of a surprise for us with everyone looking at Hulk & Massa's possible destinations! As for Max, I'm guessing he might have had a sniff of a test/reserve option somewhere - probably a low level team, so hence hinting at staying-put at Marussia.

Chilton does not impress me at all. He's had 1 good race all year. As for GvdG, he improved a lot since the beginning of the season and now out drives his teammate almost every race. This is a driver that deserves a seat at a mid-level team next year.

His manager is interested in buying shares in Williams, perhaps he'll end up there next year? Or sauber, with McGregor he has a big sponsor to buy his way into a bigger team. Which, unfortunately, is a necessity these days.

Don't think the situation is exactly the same for these two. For Max it will purely be about coin whether he can stay or not cause he hasn't shown much if anything performance wise to warrant an extended stay in F1...if anything it's probably better for him if Marussia doesn't get 10th in the constructors' since then they need his money even more.

For vdG obviously a lot will also depend on his sponsors but at least he has shown he's not out of place in F1. In general Pic has probably been slightly more consistent, but two things that are good for vdG is that he showed some highlights on important tracks (Monaco, Belgium) and he's been getting the better of Pic on more occassions as the year went on. With a year under his belt Pic started as the 1st driver, getting the updates 1st, but now the team also probably considers them equal.

He's always had ties to Williams so maybe the speculations finally lead to something next year.
