NASCRAP is the 'motor-sport' (I use the term under duress) equivalent of the WWE.

Qualify faster than more than half the field, but don''t qualify to run the race. Makes sense to me. Duh? The motorsports writer for the local paper admits even he can''t figure out the qualifying format.

I live about fifty miles from Daytona Speedway and have yet to see a Nascar event. I used to go to watch the Daytona 24 hour event and the AMA Daytona 200. I''ve been jacked around so bad by the security goons that I even quit going to those events. I''ve been a motorsports fan for over fifty years. I''ve seen everything from F1 to local bullrings on Saturday night and I''m telling you Nascar is not racing.

Hav u seen the ESPN race / season preview Jim?
Lost count of the amount of times it was called the "worlds best" / "worlds closest" / "worlds most competitive" etc ... sounded like the Guinness Book of World Records.

U must admit tho, it's the closest thing to Hollywood on the East Coast!

Daytona 500 Qualifying explained

I think it's pretty interesting myself. I'm not American (Scottish) but I really like Nascar, it's unlike anything over here. Especially interested this year as Dario Franchitti is racing.

Come on, Dice. It's not that hard to figure out, is it?

ah, the idiocy that is nascrap. I am continually amazed at the number of people who either overlook the fictional elements injected into the "racing" or are just completely oblivious to it. soap opera on wheels.

Well SP3, they hav too many cars to get into a single race ... what form of racing in Europe (or most other places) has that luxury?

It might be contrived in a way, but the cars sound awesome & dont look half bad either.

Nascar is essentially racing at the lowest common denominator. Go too fast and they'll throw an anchor on your ***. Unless, of course, you get the "CALL". This is usually in the form of a "special" restrictor plate. Don't tell me it isn't done. When you see a Dale Jr. motor away from the rest, as he did in the 2nd Daytona race in 2001 after the death of Dale Sr., something is up. Or Richard Petty win his 200th by out dragging the competition on the staightaway with President Reagan in attendance. This after he'd not won a race in years, nor ever won one after. All this might make for good entertainment, but it sure as hell isn't a competitive motorsport.

Jim, ur in bible belt country ... dont be so cynical ... u kno its just the good Lord having a Bud with Dale Sr while watching the race from above ... if between them they make Dale Jr win, there's nothing NASCAR can do about it? :-)

Seriously tho, Ive seen more overtaking in this Sat race than all the F1 races of the last few seasons.
... & I have my surround sound on full ball, so my floor is vibrating to the sound of the V8's!
How do u guys say it ... Yiiihaaaa!!!

well, im in england, and ive played nascar games on my PC for absoulte years, so i love nascar, it was real difficult to watch last year, but sky sports have it now, so ill be watching the daytona 500 on monday (the repeat, im busy sunday nights lol).

i have yet to meet anyone in person who actually likes nascar other than me though. but as FooAtari said, its unlike anything we have over here, so many cars, just so entertaining, i love it.

once saw the ASCAR at rockingham (UK), loved that too.

theres my nascar related life story. haha.

still prefer F1 though
