NASCRAP is the 'motor-sport' (I use the term under duress) equivalent of the WWE.

Give me 10:1 and I'll take Dale Jr. against the field. Pretty safe bet for Sunday's "race".

I'll give even money Teresa sells her interest in DEI before the year is out. Not because she wants to. Because Nascar tells her to.

While Nascar is not my favorite motosrpot, after the shenanigans in F1 last year, and the politics over racing over the last half decade though I find it funny that people call Nascar the WWE of racing, yet take F1 seriously...

I still watch F1 but give me GP2, Euro F3, V8 Supercars, DTM, BTCC, Nascar, Champ Car, IRL, WSBK etc etc over it any day. I no longer rate it as serious motorsport

And Oval racing definitely requires a unique skill, otherwise Villenuieve and Montoya would be kicking all kinds of ***. But they are not...

I believe Senna said if he wasnt racing F1 he would like to try Nascar as it's so different to F1. DC has also said similar. It can't be all bad.

As for this...

"Nascar is essentially racing at the lowest common denominator"

I've never met a more clueless motorsrpot fan than your average joe F1 fan. I'm not saying all F1 fans are clueless but the majority know relatively little about F1 and next to nothing about other forms of motorracing. F1 appeals to the lowest common denominator. You just have to watch ITV F1 in the UK and you will get an idea of who the pre and post race shows are aimed at. It's certainly not the knowledgeable motorsport fan. I'm not saying they shouldnt cover basic stuff, appeal to the more casual fan, but there is nothing there worth watching for "serious" fans.

FooAtari, our research has shown that just about any serious motorsport class has 2-5% of its fans that are 'die-hards' & understand the rules & series. The rest just watch / are fans because sumthing or sumone triggers their fancy. Series, teams & sponsors therefore cant cater for just the real fans.

If the FIA had to give each F1 team 2 GP2 cars, hav them paint 'em in their colours with sponsors logos & put them out to race the 1st GP on Oz ... more than 50% of the viewers would watch the entire race & firmly believe they had just watched the Oz F1 GP.

Dice, I agree. I just took annoyance at the comments suggesting Nascar was for numpties. There is a lot going on during a race, tactics are everything.

I was interested to hear Franchitti saying adapting to Nascar is the hardest thing he has ever done.

I just think a lot of people here are as ignorant to Nascar as many Americans are to F1...

Enjoying the race so far anyway.

Im a Villeneuve fan but I think if hes serious about making another career in stockers he should dip into the BAR money hes got and pay himself, when you start as a rookie you pay for your ride when the results come someone else pays, its alright for him as he has turned up after a few races and is running in the main game, I bet all the other guys who run in the lower series trying to get their break love that! hes quick so why not prove it and write that cheque?
