Jimmie Johnson said Monday that a gash to the middle finger on his left hand won't keep him from any events during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.

Johnson required repair of a tendon and nerve after cutting his finger with a kitchen knife Sunday afternoon.

The injury occurred while Johnson was preparing to compete in the final segment of the Rolex 24 at Daytona; the knife slipped as he was attempting to cut a small hole in his firesuit in order to feed a tube from a cooling shirt through the pocket of his suit.

Johnson did not compete after suffering the injury. He went to a hand specialist in Charlotte, N.C., and has clearance to race.
