David Ragan says he will hope to secure a first NASCAR Sprint Cup win and a place in the end of season Chase during the 2009 season.

Ragan took 13th in the Sprint Cup standings last season at the wheel of the #6 UPS Ford Fusion, with six top-five finishes and 14 top-tens over the course of the year.

Going into the new season, he admits that his focus isn't on lifting the championship crown with the need to take 'small steps' to move forwards, but Ragan was quick to point out that a race win would be the minimum expectation for the 2009 campaign.

"Making the chase and winning," he said when asked on his personal goals for the year ahead. "I think some of the guys are thinking championship, but we're not thinking that. We've got to take small steps.

"It's mandatory to win a race this year; we'll be devastated if we complete the season without a win. We know we can make the chase. We know we can win races, it's just a matter of having that good feel week-in and week-out with the race car and the race team and just being comfortable. I think Jimmy Fennig and Jack Roush or anyone in the Fenway Sports Group would say the same that winning races and being in the chase are our goals."

Ragan will start his bid to secure a slot in the Chase in the season-opening Daytona 500 and he admitted that he would love nothing more than to secure a win in the series' biggest event.

"That would be more than a win," he said. "That would be something that for the rest of your life you would always be a Daytona 500 champion. The race at Martinsville pays the same amount of points, but there's just something different about Daytona that you've always got and you can always talk about. It's more than a win, it's an accomplishment, it's the satisfaction and just something you never forget about."
