Childress denies GM lawsuit

Richard Childress has denied allegations that his team has filed a lawsuit against General Motors after the ailing manufacturer announced it was to cut support for teams in the Sprint Cup.

GM, which has filed for bankruptcy protection due to the ongoing economic downturn, had already revealed that it was to cut backing for teams in both the Nationwide and Truck Series' before confirming talks opened with teams in the Sprint Cup about cutting financial supports for teams in the premier level of the sport.

That move would affect Hendrick Motorsports, Stewart/Haas Racing, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Richard Childress Racing, with rumours emerging that RCR was set to launch a lawsuit against GM as a result.

However, Childress denied that that was the case, and said that the team was fully behind GM during its current problems.

"I would like to set the record straight that RCR has NOT filed a lawsuit against General Motors and I do not appreciate anyone suggesting otherwise," he said. "As is standard practice in bankruptcy proceedings, RCR has made a filing which is common among creditors in these situations.

"As previously stated as recently as this past weekend in Sonoma, RCR is proud to be associated with General Motors and we are working closely with them during these difficult economic times."
