Carpentier to sub for Waltrip at Watkins Glen

For the second time this season, Patrick Carpentier will take the wheel of the #55 Toyota from owner/driver Michael Waltrip at a road course, having been called up for Sunday's Cup race at Watkins Glen.

“Next week I get to drive the #55 again,” Carpentier, who finished eleventh in Waltrip's car at Infineon Raceway in June, confirmed, “I'm looking forward to it. I think we're going to have fun.”

Watkins Glen is known as a fast road course, in contrast to Infineon, which is a more technical track with slower corners.

“I like high-speed stuff,” Carpentier said, “I definitely like it better because of that. The asphalt [at Watkins Glen] is a little bit rougher, and it's got a little bit more grip too. We'll see how it goes. The guys are pumped up, and I'm happy.”

Driving for owner Tommy Baldwin at Pocono, Carpentier finished 37th, his day ending after 38 laps because of transmission problems.
