JR Motorsports announced last week the twelve NASCAR Nationwide Series races Danica Patrick will drive this season and left open the possibility of her racing in the season-opening event February 13 at Daytona.
The team had previously announced she would drive in the races at Auto Club Speedway and Las Vegas in February. She will decide after the February 6 ARCA race if she will compete in the Nationwide event the following week at Daytona.
After Las Vegas, Patrick will then take a four-month hiatus to focus on her Izod IndyCar Series responsibilities before returning to drive the #7 GoDaddy.com Chevy in the June 26 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The remainder of her Nationwide schedule includes Chicagoland (July 9), Michigan (August 14), Dover (September 25), Auto Club (October 9), Charlotte (October 15), Gateway (October 23), Texas (November 6), Phoenix (November 13) and Homestead-Miami (November 20).
“I'm thrilled to announce our 2010 Nationwide Series schedule,” Patrick said. “Like I've said before, we just want to be smart and calculative about this process. The tracks we've selected not only complement the IndyCar schedule, but will give me quality seat time at a variety of facilities.”
JR Motorsports will field two cars in the Daytona Nationwide race regardless of whether Patrick is in the Camping World 300 field. Because of sponsorship commitments, JRM co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive the #88 Chevrolet in place of Kelly Bires, who will return to the #88 Chevy the following week at Auto Club Speedway. Bires likely would drive the #7 should Patrick not compete in the Camping World 300.
“We want to give Danica the best opportunity to compete at Daytona, and that includes making sure she is 100 per cent comfortable in that driver's seat,” JRM co-owner Kelley Earnhardt said. “The Nationwide race there is perhaps the most competitive race of the year. Once the ARCA race is complete, we will get with Danica and make a decision based on the best interests of her, the team, and our sponsor Go Daddy.”
GoDaddy.com will serve as primary sponsor for ten of Patrick's twelve races in the #7 Chevrolet in 2010.
