Villeneuve 'not worried' as he rejoins field at Road America

Former F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve has high hopes of a strong performance as he returns to the NASCAR Nationwide Series with Braun Racing for the Bucyrus 200 at Road America this weekend
Former F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve will rejoin the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Road America with Braun Racing for the Bucyrus 200 this weekend, with the French-Canadian insisting he is unconcerned by the prospect of returning to the fray midway through the 2010 campaign.

Villeneuve holds an impressive record around the 4.048-mile road course, where he won both CART IndyCar Series events that he entered in 1994 and 1995. The 39-year-old – who has not competed in NASCAR since the NAPA Auto Parts 200 around the circuit named after his father on home turf in Montreal last August – will drive the #32 Dollar General Toyota in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and he hopes to be able to put his strong knowledge of the track to good use.

“Returning to Road America is very exciting as it remains one of my favourite tracks,” he enthused, “and I was hoping to return one day. I have great memories of the circuit as I won both times I raced there in IndyCar – in fact, Road America in '94 was actually my first win in the series.

“I'm not too worried about joining the NASCAR Nationwide Series halfway through the season, as it is the first road course this year and the first time ever for NASCAR to be racing at Elkhart Lake. A lot of the drivers will still be learning the track. We'll be looking for a strong result this weekend – hopefully a top three finish if we avoid any issues.”
