Daytona 500 pole sitter Carl Edwards will lead the field of the first Gatorade Duel to the green flag shortly after 2pm ET on Thursday afternoon with Dale Earnhardt Jr. alongside him for the start of the 60 lap, 150-mile race.
The second Duel will follow, with Greg Biffle and Casey Mears on the front row. The results of the two Duel races will between them determine the starting grid for Sunday afternoon's
Daytona 500 Cup race.
Last weekend's qualifying locked Edwards and Biffle onto the front row for the Great American Race, but the Duels will set the order of the cars from the second row on down.
Qualifying has already guaranteed places in the race for Trevor Bayne, David Stremme, Tony Raines and Terry Labonte. The top two finishes on Thursday among non-guaranteed drivers will also earn a starting spot in Sunday's
Daytona 500, with the rest of the field being set by qualifying speed.
Clint Bowyer starts from the back of the field in Duel 2, after his car failed ride height inspection after Sunday's qualifying.
