Denny Hamlin to start at Talladega

"A recovery on the kind of surgery that I would like to have is about a month-and-a-half or so," he'd explained. "I could potentially come back maybe for the tail end of the year. It wouldn't be a season-ending."

Hamlin has already fallen from tenth place in the Sprint Cup standings at Fontana to 28th place now. His chances of making it into the post-regular season Chase for the title by finishing in the top ten appear to be all but over. However, he could still make it by clinching one of the 'most wins' wild cars, provided that he finished in the top 20.

At the moment, Hamlin is just 71 points outside that with 17 races still to go before the cut-off; however, he's also yet to win a race in 2013.
