No Indy 'double' attempt for Kurt Busch in 2013

10 May 2013

Kurt Busch spend a full day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday, trying out the #1 Andretti Autosport IZOD IndyCar Series DW12 Dallara and reaching speeds in excess of 218mph.

Along the way, Busch completed the Rookie Orientation Process that all newcomers entering the Indy 500 for the first time are required to undertake, and he did it with relative ease.

However, Busch - who was supported at IMS by his father and his #78 Furniture Row Racing team - ruled out any chance he would attempt to do the 'double' which would mean following the 500-mile race with the 600-mile Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway the same evening.

"I'm not talking about this year [but] it could be a 13-month project," said Busch afterwards. "It's all about business and sponsorships and timing but I definitely want to race in the Indy 500 if we can make it happen."

"It's too early to say anything definite but if we can work things out I'd love to run Kurt here next year,” said Andretti Autosport team boss Michael Andretti.

Busch and Andretti floated the idea of a pre-Indy 500 maiden outing for Busch in an IndyCar race, with July's Pocono event looking the most likely at this stage.
