There's an urban myth about the 'curse of the runner-up' in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and Carl Edwards still seems to be caught up in it. After finishing second to Tony Stewart in 2011 (level on points but losing the title on a most-wins tiebreaker) Edwards missed out on the Chase entirely in 2012, and while he and Roush Fenway Racing team mate Greg Biffle did make the cut this season neither of them ever looked in danger of putting together a successful title run. Not the year he was after, even though there was a pole at Talladega, wins at Phoenix and Richmond and 16 top tens with an average finish of 13.6.
