Tuner Scott Motorsport's rookie driver Ben Kennedy topped the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice timesheets at the end of a full two hour session at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday morning in Alabama.

Kennedy's best lap was timed at 50.692s on the 2.66-mile tri-oval with a speed of 188.902s. He set the time just half an hour into practice, after TSM and the other teams had been working on running nose to tail in small packs of four and five. Drivers were reminded that "push-drafting" is no longer allowed at Talladega.

Kennedy, who is currently in eighth position in the Truck Series championship with five rounds remaining in 2014, finished the session just eight thousandths of a second faster than Billy Boat Motorsports' Mason Mingus. The pair were followed TSM's Tayler Maslem who saw off RSS Racing's Ryan Sieg for third place.

GMS Racing's Spencer Gallagher along with NTS Motorsport duo Ron Hornaday Jr. Brennan Newberry also finished less than four hundredths off Kennedy's time, with a half second gap then between the top seven and Glenden Enterprise's Chris Fontaine in eighth.

In total there were 36 cars on track for the single practice session available to Truck Series drivers. Among those bidding to make the grid for Saturday afternoon's Fred's 250 race are former IndyCar driver Milka Duno in her first NASCAR Truck race appearance. The 42-year-old Venezuelan finished practice in 34th place for MAKE Motorsports.

With the Chase at a critical stage this weekend, there were no Cup drivers attempting double duty at Talladega on Friday. Kyle Busch Motorsport will be represented by Erik Jones in the #51 and Darrell Wallace Jr. in the #54 (ninth and 21st fastest respectively in practice) and Brad Keselowski Racing by Ryan Blaney and Tyler Reddick (15th and 24th).

The practice session ran without major incident, although there was a caution for debris at the end of pit road 35 minutes in, and a second just before the hour when Mike Harmon spun the #74 Truck between turns 3 and 4. Harmon finished with the slowest time of the session after completing just two laps.

There was a further interruption to clean up fluid on the track in turn 4 after 90 minutes, and a final caution near the end of the session when Jeb Burton's #13 ThorSport came to a halt on the track after running out of gas.

Burton's team mate Matt Crafton, who currently leads the championship by 19 points over the third ThorSport driver Johnny Sauter, finished the session in 14th place while Sauter was three spots behind in 17th.

The Trucks will be out again for qualifying later in the afternoon (4.45pm local time), with the race itself scheduled to get underway on Saturday at 12.30pm.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers get two practice sessions on Friday afternoon, with qualifying for Sunday's GEICO 500 taking place on Saturday after the end of the Truck race.

There is no NASCAR Nationwide Series activity this weekend, with the second-tier championship not due to return to action until the O'Reilly Auto Parts Challenge on November 1 at Texas Motor Speedway.
