Kyle Busch Motorsport's Darrell Wallace Jr. ended Friday with the fastest time of anyone following two separate practice sessions for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series field.

The defending race winner set his best time of 19.748s (95.888mph) in the second session on Friday afternoon that lasted for 85 minutes. He was four thousandths of a second faster than ThorSport Racing's Matt Crafton, who currently leads the championship points standings.

The man in second place in the title battle, Ryan Blaney, had been the fastest driver in the earlier 50-minute session with a time of 19.894s (95.185mph) set on the third of ten laps at the half-mile Martinsville Speedway which had put him just one thousandths of a second faster than NTS Motorsport's Gray Gaulding.

However Blaney was unable to improve upon or even match his earlier time in the later session, and the Brad Keselowski Racing #29 ended up down in 18th place in the second session which is the last that the Truck drivers have before qualifying and the Kroger 200 race itself on Saturday afternoon.

The two sessions saw three stoppages, the first of which was triggered by Camden Murphy whose SS-Green Light Racing #08 suffered a mechanical issue during the initial session and leaked fluid onto the track. Wendell Chavous brought out the yellows for a second time 30 minutes into the same session when he spun the #74 Mike Harmon Racing truck into the wall.

Charles Buchanan Jr. spun to bring out a caution late in the final practice when he spun in the #87 truck; the pause in track action also gave track officials time to take care of more fluid leaking from the problematic #08.
