Jeff Gordon was fastest of anyone in Friday's two practices at Watkins Glen on Friday ahead of Sunday's final Sprint Cup road race of 2015.
Hendrick Motorsports' Jeff Gordon proved to be the fastest man on track at Watkins Glen International on Friday, setting the pace with a time of 69.412s (127.067mph) on the 2.454 mile, 11-turn road course in the second of the day's two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice sessions.

Already a four-time winner at the Glen, Gordon has one last chance to make it five with this weekend's visit before he retires from competition at the end of the season. That would put Gordon equal in Glen wins with Tony Stewart who is currently out on his own as the all-time race winner at the circuit.
"We've had some good success over the years and we've had some weekends that didn't go so well," said Gordon. "You have to be super aggressive in the braking zones. It's fun and challenging. It's great when you get it right, it's easy to get it wrong."
Kyle Larson was second-fastest in the session in the Chip Ganassi Racing #42 having earlier topped Xfinity Series practice. He was 0.155s away from Gordon's best time in the late afternoon Cup session, while Roush Fenway Racing's Greg Biffle was third on the timing screens when the chequered flag came out putting him just ahead of Kyle Busch who was was fourth-fastest in the Joe Gibbs Racing #18 car.
"Over the years we've run real well here at Watkins Glen," said Busch, who was victorious here in 2008 and 2013, and has already won a road course race this season. "Winning at Sonoma and having a really good car out there, I'm really optimistic about being here this weekend and hopefully carrying that road coarse momentum through to Watkins Glen."
The earlier session at noon had been topped by Michael Waltrip Racing's Clint Bowyer with a lap of 69.267s (127.333mph) putting him just 0.091s ahead of last year's race winner AJ Allmendinger (JTG Daugherty).
Bowyer eased off in the later session and was just 32nd fastest, while Allmendinger also had nothing left to prove in the second practice and was only 28th in the later timings.
With no further practice time scheduled for the teams, qualifying for the 90-lap, 220.5-mile Cheez-It 355 at The Glen will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1.15pm local time 6.15pm BST), with the race itself scheduled to get the green flag on Sunday afternoon at 2pm (7pm BST).
For the first time in the Cup series there is the chance that the drivers might have to race in the rain, after a rule change added wet weather tyres for road course events in 2015. However the forecasts suggest that is unlikely to happen this year at least.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series is also in action this weekend, with qualifying for the Zippo 200 and the race istelf both taking place on Saturday.
