Nextel Cup team owner/driver Robby Gordon will move his eponymous team from Chevrolet to Ford in 2007 and will also work on expanding his programme to two full-time teams.
Gordon, who has been the subject of much speculation over the summer concerning a buyout of Robert Yates Racing, will shift back to the manufacturer that helped him in the early stages of his career as well as who provided the equipment for his abortive efforts as a Cup Series team owner in 2000.
In addition to swapping his Chevrolet Monte Carlos for Ford Fusions, Gordon's existing #7 team looks set to be joined by a second squad, the #77, ideally for the full 2007 season as long as funding can be secured.
Gordon's second-year #7 team has been one of the success stories of the season so far for after starting the year outside the top 35 in owner points Gordon qualified on speed for each of the first five races of the year and had the #7 team inside the top 35 in the team standings by the sixth race of the championship.
Guaranteed a starting spot each week for the first time in his ownership career Gordon and his crew currently sit 27th in the team standings and are certain of a place in the first five races of the 2007 season.
