Having already ruled Champ Car's Paul Tracy out of his season finale, the 'curse of the golf cart' has now caught up with new Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson.
The Hendrick Motorsport driver has broken his left wrist falling out of a golf cart during a celebrity tournament, ruling him out of driving for the next month. The injury not only means that Johnson misses any NASCAR testing between now and mid-January, but also rules him out of this weekend's Race of Champions in Paris.
"I was in a golf cart and the driver took a sharp turn," Johnson said in a statement issued by his Hendrick Motorsport team, "I wasn't holding on tight enough, landed awkwardly on the ground and heard a little pop. It was a fluke deal. Fortunately, we're in the off-season."
As the injury was to his left hand, and therefore not the one he uses to change gear, Johnson is confident that he will be fit enough to take part in pre-season testing at Daytona next month.
